I know you can all picture the box…with that cute little white glove waving at you. Ah yes, Hamburger Helper. It’s one of those quick meals I know many of you have turned to.

WHY? Because it’s super easy and tastes good. But have you looked at the side of that box? I think there are about 20 mystery ingredients. YIKES!

Ladies and gentlemen, this recipe only has 6 ingredients, and I bet you have most of them already in your kitchen! Score! There’s no mystery here!

Here is what you need: Severs 4-6
1 lb of ground beef (to make this vegetarian friendly, use veggie crumble such as Morningstar Farms)
5 cups of egg noodles
1 small can (6oz) tomato paste
1/2 cup of chopped onion
2-3 cloves of minced garlic
2 tsp chili powder
1 and 1/4 cup of water
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
(optional shredded cheese for topping)

1. Start by cooking noodles according to the package directions. Meanwhile cook beef, onion and garlic in a large skillet until brown. Drain off access liquid.

2. Stir in the tomato paste, chili powder, water, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 5-7 minutes.

3. Drain noodles and stir into beef mixture.

The whole family LOVED this meal. I made a second batch for Darryl using the vegetarian crumble.

  5. Corey – I tried this tonight. So easy AND delicious. Why wouldn’t you want simple, healthy ingredients versus a box?! My only variation was I used a basil, oregano, garlic tomato paste (which I picked up by accident) – delish! Looking forward to trying some of your other recipes. Thank you for sharing.
