  1. This sounds delicious and so easy. Question … do you think one could use olive oil instead of butter? Perhaps vegan butter? Thanks for sharing!

    1. I have not tried olive oil yet….but I have seen others use it and be successful! Try substituting in 1/3 -1/2 cup of oil for the butter 🙂 Hope that helps!

  2. I love onions and this looks really really super delicious! I have pinned it and i am trying it. Will go to the store and get the onions.

My mouth is watering as I type.

Thanks so much for sharing – both of you!

What size crock pot works best? I’ve got a particularly large one.

    1. I used a 6 quart crockpot for these 🙂 Hope that helps!

  4. Christen Noble says:

Do you know how you could turn this into French Onion Soup once the onions are done?

    1. I have not done that yet. But am planing on trying soon! YUM

  5. I would not have thought to put onions in a crockpot to caramelize them! What a great idea and so easy!

  6. Do you think you’d do this all the same for Red Onions?

    1. Never have tried red onions, but I bet they would also taste great!

  7. Tried this a few days ago and my onions burnt. 🙁 Left them over night. Do you recommend stirring occasionally or should I try the low setting?

    1. I didn’t have to stir mine Chris. Every crockpot is different, so maybe try on a low setting. I hope that helps!

  8. I need to cook 75 onions for 150 Kilbasa sandwiches, can I put more than 5 onions in the crock pot and cook for the same length of time and have them done in 10 hrs? hope so!!!

    1. Yes, you should be fine adding more. Make sure to add more butter as well! You might need to cook it a little longer, so adjust for maybe an hour or 2 longer 🙂

  9. Sorry. This recipe just didn’t make it. The onions were floating in their own broth and never even started to brown. I had to drain them and finish frying them in a hot frying pan.
