One of my favorite  childhood memories during the holidays would be baking cookies with my Grandmother and Mother.  I am excited to carry on this memory-making tradition with my girls.

When I asked Big D & Little D what their favorite part of Christmas was, they were both in agreement…Presents and COOKIES. I thought it would be fun to blend the two and make present cookies 🙂

These 3D present cookies  are not only adorable, but are a blast for kiddos to make.  There are endless ways to have fun while getting creative with cookie decorations and present fillers.

  • 1 ( 17.5 oz) Betty Crocker Sugar Cookie Mix
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup butter, room temperature
  • 1 Tablespoon flour (plus more for rolling out dough)
  • 1 (12oz) tub of Betty Crocker Vanilla Frosting
  • Food coloring of your choice
  • A variety of Fruit Roll-ups, candy and food sprinkles for decorations
  1. Prepare cookie dough according to package. If you are coloring your dough like we did, I found it easiest to mix food coloring in with the egg before adding it to the mix. This make the color blend in much smoother than adding it in at the end.

    3. Cut out squares using a cookie cutter and place  on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.  Use a small square cookie cutter or a knife to cut the centers out of one third of your cookies. You are going to need 2 full squares and 2 hollow squares for each present.

  3. In the meantime, preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Bake cookies for 10-12 minutes, until just the edges begin to brown.  To trim up any uneven edges, I used my square cookie cutter to make even edges while cookies are still warm.

  4. Allow cookies to cool completely before assembling your cookie presents.
  5. Next, color your frosting with food coloring  to match the color of your presents.  Fill a pastry bag or plastic bag with frosting. Pipe a thin line of frosting on squares to act as the “glue” for your presents.
  6. Each present should be a full square, then 2 hollow squares, {fill with candy here } and topped with a solid square .

  7. Have fun filling the presents with candy, sprinkles or even a special holiday message!  After you are done filling, use frosting to attach the top cookie.

These are incredible and can’t wait to try. What is best way to ensure the 1/4″ thickness? What is best way to store without drying out? Thanks!

    1. I have always just eyeballed the thickness Tiffany. If you are a little off, it won’t matter all that much. Are taking about storing after or before baking?

  7. Can I freeze them after I bake them and after I Decorate them

    1. I wouldn’t advise freezing these Traci
