The start of a new year is a great time for changing up our old routines. You know, breaking away from bad habits-or just boring ones-and trying something new.

Where better to start than with your lunch box?

After all, we all have to eat lunch every day, but there’s no reason it has to be the same lunch every day. Sure, it’s easy to keep packing the same old turkey sandwich and apple and chips, Monday through Friday-but then one day, after three weeks straight of the same thing, you can find yourself pulling out that box at lunch time and realizing you just can’t face one more turkey sandwich.

And next thing you know, you’re hitting the drive-through and wolfing down a bacon double cheeseburger and spending the rest of the afternoon feeling bloated and greasy. So stop that Micky D’s run before it starts with a little lunchtime variety. Here’s a whole slew of fresh ideas for lunchtime-some from my blog, some from friends-that should keep your taste buds interested all month long.

    1. Yes! Thank you Amy 🙂

I didn’t see this posted anywhere but then again I didn’t look very hard. Can you tell me where I might find those neat tupperware-like containers?

    1. Look at the bottom of the post Kim. I have images (that are links) that will direct you to where I bought mine 🙂

See? I just knew I hadn’t looked hard enough! Thank you! 🙂

      2. How do you keep the avocado from browning in the chicken salad and in your lunches when it is served on the side? I love avocado but can’t eat it all in one sitting. I usually make fresh guacamole with it but would like to use it more as a side and want it to keep the 4-5 hours before I eat lunch.

Thanks! I love all of this!

  2. Thank you for sharing all this wisdom. I belong to a bicycle team called “Pata de Perro” means literally in English Dog Paw but it has a colloquial meaning which is “Out and About” and that says it all about us. Our new years resolution was to eat healthier and do more exercise. We’re about 30 members, and we’ve formed a nice brotherhood. So, therefore this pack-able lunches are just superb for our outings. You may find us in our facebook page Pata de Perro Querretaro

  3. Great ideas! It’s bento madness over here nowadays and a lot of these eats will fit nicely into the compartments. Thanks, great post.

  4. Hi, there was one container that you didn’t link at the bottom of the page. Its the one that is a plastic square and it folds into itself and has a handle… Could you let me know where i can get that one please?

  5. very attractive presentation, but many of these seem like snacks rather than a full lunch calorie-wise. I am a 120-pound woman, so not big, and yet I would be starving within an hour or two with many of these options. I like to eat three main meals with a ligh snack or two (fruit with cheese, smoothie, or nuts) in between, and I’m afraid these won’t cut it for me. Does eating as shown presuppose lots of snack throughout the day?

    1. I like to keep my lunches around 400-500 calories a meal 🙂 If some of these look lighter I have usually included some fruit or a a protein bar as a snack. I hope that helps!

  6. I really enjoyed this post. These lunches look amazing! I can’t wait to try some of them. If only you could make them for me too 🙂

  7. Michelle M. says:

Your lunches are so creative! I love leftovers and your containers are too cute!

  8. This is the first healthy take to work/school lunch article I have seen that actually has stuff I would plausibly eat and make! The other lists have very complicated foods, and they don’t include sides. This list is great! Thanks!
