Berry Beet Smoothie

Berry Beet Smoothie - Such a fast, easy and yummy breakfast - FamilyFreshMeals.com

Beets are one of those veggies that I really wish I liked more. They’re loaded with fiber and nutrients that are good for just about every system in your body, and they’re supposed to be particularly great for clearing toxins out of your liver. The only problem is that they taste like…well, beets.

So I started tinkering with ways to sneak beets into a smoothie. That way, I could still get all those great health benefits, but the fruit flavors would camouflage the beet taste.

After a bit of trial and error, I think I’ve found a combo that does the trick. Along with cooked beets, it has vitamin-C-rich orange juice and blueberries, which are a nutrient powerhouse in their own right. The resulting mixture has a bright, cheerful red color…but it tastes nothing like beets. Score!

So next time you feel like your body could do with a bit of cleansing, try this Berry Beat Smoothie. You can almost feel yourself getting healthier with every sip.

  1. Do you think you could use canned Beets to save time and prep work? 3 kids 4 and under means I don’t have much kitchen time 🙂

    1. Yes, but I would use low sodium ones if possible. Otherwise the smoothie might taste a little salty. You could try upping the berries and honey if you cannot find low sodium ones 🙂

  2. I use fresh beets in our smoothies every day no matter what flavor because of the great health benefits! You do not need to cook them and lose all the good nutrients, just buy a bunch which is usually about 4 and wash and cut ends off and I cut up in chunks, let dry and then put in my green boxes and every day throw a chunk or two in depending on the size. Oh so healthy. You never taste it in the drink. You can use the beet leaves as Very healthy, but my husband is on coumadin (blood thinners) so he can’t have the Vitamin K.
Try the beets as they are Awesome in smoothies and health benefits very high.
