Banana Split Bites - Family Fresh Meals

In summertime, it’s always nice to keep your meals light and cool. And that goes double when it comes to dessert.

After all, when it’s 90 degrees out, who wants to heat up the kitchen baking a cake or a pie? No, it makes much more sense to go for something light with fresh fruit, or a frozen treat that helps you stay cool.

These Banana Split Bites are both in one. They have all the flavors of a frosty banana split – banana, chocolate, whipped cream, sprinkles, and even a cherry – but in bite-sized form.

The really nice thing about these is that they’re little, so you can have just as much dessert if you want. If the hot weather is sapping your appetite, you can have just one chocolatey bite for a little taste of something sweet. Or, if you’re hungry enough for a whole dessert, you can have two or three, and it’s still lighter and healthier than a slice of cake.

Banana Split Bites - Ingredients - Family Fresh Meals

Banana Split Bites

Ingredients

3 Ripe Bananas
1 (8oz) Cool Whip (original or fat free)
1 Jar Maraschino Cherries
Milk Chocolate Candy Discs
Sprinkles
Toothpicks

Directions

1. Star buy peeling bananas and cut into 2-3 inch pieces.

2. Next, melt the candy discs per package directions and dip each banana into melted chocolate about halfway up the banana.

3. Dip the chocolate end of the bananas into the sprinkles and coat well.

4. Let these set up and harden for about 10 minutes.

5. Place the whipped topping into a piping bag or plastic bag, and pipe a small dollop onto the top of each banana.

6. Place a cherry on top of each banana.

Instructions

    Such a quick, easy, simple and cool recipe. I have made something similar with strawberry but never thought of using a banana. Yours is a simple and innovative recipe which will be hit among the kids. And what a superb way to make them eat fruit.

    How do you keep the banana’s from turning brown?

    1. Once frozen, bananas usually don’t brown anymore.

    2. When do you freeze the bananas to prevent browning? The recipe doesn’t call for that.

    3. Sandy is right. You don’t state when to freeze them. Please clarify.

    4. You do not need to freeze these Sarah. The bananas for this recipe are not frozen.

      But they will go brown. That was the question. I’m wondering the same thing. Did them in lemon juice perhaps?

      Try dipping bananas in orange juice or pineapple juice.
