Crockpot Citrus Pork Street Tacos - Family Fresh Meals Recipe

Tacos are not all created equal.

Most Americans know two kinds of tacos. There’s the traditional crunchy taco in a hard corn shell, and there’s the soft taco, which is wrapped up completely in a big, fluffy flour tortilla.

But street tacos are a completely different creature. They’re small and portable, so you can grab them and eat them with one hand. They’re made with little tortillas – either flour or corn – and they’re left open at the top, so the contents can peep out.

Street tacos can be filled with fish or with a delicious, spicy, slow-cooked pork. Traditionally, the pork is roasted slowly on a spit, with slices carved off to make each taco. But if you want to make it at home, you can get that same slow-cooked flavor in the Crockpot.

My Crockpot Citrus Pork Street Tacos use a pork roast that’s seasoned with orange juice, lime juice, garlic, and Mexican spices. It cooks all day in the crock, so it comes out tender, juicy, and flavorful.

Tuck a portion inside each tortilla, top it with some lettuce, cheese, and salsa, and you can enjoy the street taco experience right in your own kitchen.

Crockpot Citrus Pork Street Tacos

Ingredients:
2 lb pork roast
3 Tablespoons vegetable oil
Salt and pepper
1 cup orange juice
1/3 cup fresh lime juice (about 2-3 limes)
4 gloves of garlic, minced
1 teaspoon cumin
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon oregano
1 Tablespoon salt
2 Bay Leaves
small tortillas

Toppings:
Shredded lettuce
pico de gallo
feta cheese crumbles

Directions:
1. In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over a high heat. Season pork well with salt and pepper. Brown all sides of pork. Prepare a crockpot with nonstick cooking spray and place browned roast in crockpot.

2. In a small bowl, mix together orange juice, lime juice, garlic, cumin, chili powder, oregano, and salt.

3. Pour sauce over pork. Flip pork around so it is all coated in sauce. Add in your 2 bay leaves.

4. Cook on high for 6 hours or low for 8-10 hours, until pork is cooked all the way through.

5. Remove pork from crockpot and shred. Place shredded pork on a large baking sheet. Spoon some of the sauce over the pork, and broil for 4-5 minutes.

6. Build your street tacos with your favorite toppings. I used shredded lettuce, pico de gallo (check out my recipe here) and feta cheese.

    I have to admit I think 1 Tb of salt plus salt and pepper while browning the pork was way too much salt. The pork is already salty, I bet you could get by with just seasoning the pork whole browning and skip the salt in the sauce. Or do as needed.
