Birthday Cake Lush Cake is a layered dessert with a crushed Golden Oreo cookie crust, cream cheese layer, vanilla pudding layer with sprinkles, whipped topping, and extra sprinkles as garnish. This lush cake has the flavor of a traditional birthday cake but in a refrigerated dessert form!

Recipe Notes:

  • You can use any extra Golden Oreo cookies as a crumbled topping to this lush cake.
  • To soften your cream cheese for a smooth mixing, make sure to leave your cream cheese out at room temperature while preparing your cookie crust. You can also warm up your cream cheese in the microwave for 15 seconds on HIGH (placing it on a microwavable plate).
  • It’s best for the Golden Oreo cookies to be crumbled into a fine consistency for the buttery cookie crust which is why I recommend using a food process instead of crushing the cookies with a rolling pin.
  • This birthday cake lush cake is best served chilled!
  • It’s important to use instant pudding and not cooked and served pudding otherwise this dessert won’t set correctly.

Can I make this lush cake with out baking it?

Absolutely! The only reason why there’s baking time listed in this recipe is due to the crushed Golden Oreo crust that requires a brief time in the oven.

If you want to make this a no-bake lush cake instead, you can chill the cookie crust in the freezer for about 10 minutes before adding the other lush cake layers to the cake pan.

How should I store my cake?

This birthday cake lush cake can be stored for 3-4 days in the refrigerator in an airtight container.

It’s important to note that this lush cake shouldn’t be left at room temperature for any extended amount of time due to the cream cheese and whipped topping, which can go off quickly, particularly in warm temperatures.

Can I freeze this lush cake?

Yes, this dessert freezes well for up to 3 months. Thaw the frozen cake in the fridge before serving it.

What variations can I make to this cake?

1. You can use birthday cake Oreos, any wafer cookies, sweet crackers (like Graham crackers), or other types of vanilla sandwich cookies to make the crust of this birthday cake lush cake.

2. Add additional garnish to the top of your cake such as chocolate shavings, coconut flakes or a sprinkling of crushed Golden Oreos.

3. For a low sugar birthday cake lush cake, consider using a low sugar or sugar free vanilla instant pudding.

4. Make mini birthday cake lush cakes by using these mini pie pans or ramekins.

HOW DO I HEAT TREAT THE CAKE MIX?

You can heat treat your cake mix in two ways: the microwave or the oven.

For the microwave method, microwave the cake mix in a microwave safe bowl for 2 x 30-second intervals, stirring in between. Allow the cake mix to reach room temperature before adding to the lush cake recipe.

For the oven method, place the cake mix on a large tray lined with parchment paper and cover the tray evenly with the cake mix. Cook at 350 F for 5 minutes and then allow the mix to reach room temperature before adding to the lush cake recipe.
