Ingredients

  • 1 17.5 oz Betty Crocker Sugar Cookie Mix
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup butter, room temperature
  • 1 Tablespoon flour, plus more for rolling out dough
  • 1 12oz tub of Betty Crocker Vanilla Frosting
  • Food coloring of your choice
  • A variety of Fruit Roll-ups, candy and food sprinkles for decorations

Instructions

  • Prepare cookie dough according to package. If you are coloring your dough like we did, I found it easiest to mix food coloring in with the egg before adding it to the mix. This make the color blend in much smoother than adding it in at the end.
  • Roll the dough out to 1/4" thickness.
  • Cut out squares using a cookie cutter and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Use a small square cookie cutter or a knife to cut the centers out of one third of your cookies. You are going to need 2 full squares and 2 hollow squares for each present.
  • In the meantime, preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Bake cookies for 10-12 minutes, until just the edges begin to brown. To trim up any uneven edges, I used my square cookie cutter to make even edges while cookies are still warm.
  • Allow cookies to cool completely before assembling your cookie presents.
  • Next, color your frosting with food coloring to match the color of your presents. Fill a pastry bag or plastic bag with frosting. Pipe a thin line of frosting on squares to act as the "glue" for your presents.
  • Each present should be 1 full square, 2 hollow squares, {fill with candy here } and topped with a solid square
  • Have fun filling the presents with candy, sprinkles or even a special holiday message! After you are done filling, use frosting to attach the top cookie.
  • To complete our presents, we used some Fruit Roll-ups and frosting for ribbons.
