Applesauce Cake

Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup salted butter softened
  • 1 ½ cups brown sugar lightly packed
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 ½ cups unsweetened applesauce
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup walnuts chopped
  • Powdered sugar for topping (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350° degrees F. Beat the butter and sugar until fluffy, about 1-2 minutes.
  • Add in eggs and continue to stir.
  • Combine the dry ingredients (flour, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and baking powder and soda)
  • Alternate adding in the applesauce and dry ingredients into the butter mixture, stirring after each addition until all of the ingredients are combined.
  • Fold in walnuts.
  • Pour the mixture into the greased 8x8 inch pan and bake in oven for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick or tester comes out clean.
  • Once the cake is finished cooking, allow to cool. Dust cake with powdered sugar, optional.
