Classic Green Bean Casserole

This old-fashioned Classic Green Bean Casserole is a holiday dish not to be left off your menu. A simple, but favorite holiday recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon cooking oil
  • ½ medium yellow onion finely chopped
  • 2 teaspoons garlic minced
  • 1 10.5-ounce can condensed cream of chicken soup cream of mushroom is also yummy!
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt plus more to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup cheddar cheese shredded
  • 2 14.5 ounce cans green beans, drained
  • 1 3/4 cups crispy fried onions

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Heat the oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the onion. Sauté for 3 minutes or until softened and fragrant.
  • Add the garlic and continue to sauté for 1 minute.
  • Pour in the soup and milk and stir.
  • Heat the mixture for 3-4 minutes or until warmed through. Do not boil.
  • Add a pinch of salt and black pepper. Stir in the cheese.
  • Mix in the green beans, add ½ cup of the crispy onions, and toss until well combined.
  • Pour green bean mixture into an 9x13 inch pan.
  • Spread in an even layer and top with the remaining 1 ¼ cup fried onions.
  • Bake for 20 minutes or until bubbly and the top is golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
