Classic Green Bean Casserole

- 1 tablespoon cooking oil
- ½ medium yellow onion finely chopped
- 2 teaspoons garlic minced
- 1 10.5-ounce can condensed cream of chicken soup cream of mushroom is also yummy!
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1/2 teaspoon salt plus more to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup cheddar cheese shredded
- 2 14.5 ounce cans green beans, drained
- 1 3/4 cups crispy fried onions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Heat the oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the onion. Sauté for 3 minutes or until softened and fragrant.
Add the garlic and continue to sauté for 1 minute.
Pour in the soup and milk and stir.
Heat the mixture for 3-4 minutes or until warmed through. Do not boil.
Add a pinch of salt and black pepper. Stir in the cheese.
Mix in the green beans, add ½ cup of the crispy onions, and toss until well combined.
Pour green bean mixture into an 9x13 inch pan.
Spread in an even layer and top with the remaining 1 ¼ cup fried onions.
Bake for 20 minutes or until bubbly and the top is golden brown.
Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
