Who knew Danish could be this easy?
Danish pastries make a wonderful treat for a holiday breakfast. That flaky, buttery pastry, that sticky-sweet fruit filling, that light glaze of sugar icing – everything about them is decadent and delightful.
Of course, you pretty much have to save these for special occasions, because they’re a lot of work to make. Getting that perfect, tender pastry is a complicated process with a lot of steps – kneading, rolling, letting it rest overnight, rolling it out again. It’s so much hassle that most people just figure it’s easier to buy them from the bakery.
But what if it wasn’t?
My Easy Cherry Cheese Danish recipe uses a super sneaky shortcut to make homemade Danish easy. You skip all that kneading and rolling and stuff, and just start out with a can of refrigerated crescent dough. All you have to do is cut it into circles, press them flat, and load in the filling – which is also super easy to make, because you use canned cherry pie filling. Then just pop them in the oven, whip up the glaze, and drizzle it on once they’ve cooled a bit.
These homemade Danish, served warm out of the oven, are a treat that puts the bakery version to shame. And when everyone exclaims over how much trouble you went to, you can just smile modestly and say nothing.
