Flying Dutchman Burgers

Ingredients

  • 2 lb. Ground Beef 80% lean /20% fat
  • 2 large onions sliced into ¼"-½"
  • 3 tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • ½ teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 4 Slices American Cheese
  • Pinch Sugar
  • Burger Sauce optional

Instructions

  • Add oil to cast iron skillet or griddle.
  • Over medium-heat, sprinkle sugar over whole sliced onions and place into the skillet and cook until each side has barely caramelized.
  • Remove onion rings from skillet and place on cutting board to rest.
  • Season hamburger with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
  • While onions are resting add hamburger to skillet. Firmly press hamburger patties down, so they become thin patties.
  • Cook for about 2-3 minutes on the first side. Flip the patties and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  • Place sliced cheese on top of hamburger patties and then stack one on top of the other.
  • Place double patties on top of the first whole onion ring and then top with the next whole onion ring.
  • Serve with sauce.
