Nutella Stuffed Brownies
Oh my goodness, you guys. I mean, seriously, oh my goodness. Remember that time I made brownies with Nutella frosting? And how it took my basic fudge brownie recipe — which was already pretty incredible on its own — to new heights of amazing?
Well, I started wondering if there was a way to take this idea to the next level. To create a brownie that had that Nutella magic baked right in — inside the brownies. But I didn’t just want to swirl Nutella into my brownie batter. I wanted to keep it a separate layer, so you could really taste it. Which was a problem, because you can’t spread Nutella on top of unbaked batter.
The solution turned out to be spreading the Nutella on a parchment-lined baking pan and freezing it. Then you can pour half your brownie batter in the pan, add the layer of frozen Nutella, and then spread on the rest of the batter. The Nutella thaws as the brownies bake, but it doesn’t melt completely, so it’s still a distinct layer within the brownies.
With every bite, your teeth sink into soft, moist fudge brownie before hitting a layer of chocolate-hazelnut magic that bursts on your tongue like a flavor bomb. It’s seriously swoon-worthy.

Nutella Stuffed Brownies
- Line square baking pan with parchment paper. Spread full jar (or ~8 oz.) Nutella in thin layer over parchment paper in baking pan.
Place in freezer for at least 1 hour until Nutella forms a solid layer. - Remove parchment paper with frozen Nutella from baking dish. Place back in freezer to keep firm while preparing brownie batter.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees Farenheit. Melt butter and chopped baking bar in microwave in 30 second increments until full melted and smooth. Stir after every 30 seconds. Mixture should be fully melted within 1.5-2 minutes.
- Add oil, granulated sugar, brown sugar to butter/chocolate mixture and stir.
- Add in eggs + egg yolk and vanilla extract. Mix in flour.
- Fold in chocolate chips.
- Grease baking dish (be sure baking dish is at room temperature. Do not put dish straight from the freezer into the oven.) Spread half of the brownie batter into the greased baking dish.
- Remove Nutella layer from freezer and peel away parchment paper.
- Place Nutella sheet over the first layer of brownie batter. Top with remaining brownie batter. Bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove from oven and allow to cool completely before cutting.
How can I tell when the brownies are done?
- Well, you can’t test them with a toothpick like you normally would, because you’ll just get Nutella on it. So you pretty much have to go by time. If you leave them in for 30 minutes, then take them out and let them cool fully before cutting them, they’ll come out just right: fully cooked, but soft and fudgy.
Could you use this frozen-Nutella layer in other kinds of bars besides brownies?
- Oh man, don’t give me ideas. I’m already imagining Nutella Stuffed Blondies…or maybe even a Stuffed Banana Bread with Nutella inside. Hmm, I may have to experiment some more…
