Sweets to the sweet….

Easy Heart Valentine Cupcakes - FamilyFreshMeals.com - Perfect for Valentine's Day!
Here’s a little gem of an idea I picked up on Pinterest.  Basically, it’s just a Valentine’s Day twist on the classic cupcake.  All you have to do is remove a slice from the top of each cake with a heart-shaped cookie cutter, then fill it in with frosting to make a sweet heart for your sweetheart. (You can see the post that inspired it here.)

The beautiful part is, you can use any cupcake and any icing you like. I’ve shown it here with chocolate and vanilla cupcakes and pink butter cream icing, but you don’t have to be limited to that. You could add a dash of Valentine color with a red velvet cake and cream cheese icing.

Or, if your sweetie’s favorite is spice cake, you could make spice cupcakes with coconut icing. Or you could go extra-dark with a dark chocolate cupcake and mocha icing. The possibilities are endless!

Easy Heart Valentine Cupcakes

Ingredients:

Your favorite cupcakes, prepared and completely cooled

Your choice of frosting  (here is my favorite butter cream recipe)

Small heart-shaped cookie cutter

Pipping bag or large ziplock bag with tip cut off

Directions:

1. Prepare your favorite cupcakes and cool completely. This is SUPER important. If the cupcakes are not completely cooled, then your hearts will not hold form when you cut it out. If you are rushed on time, then pop them in a fridge or freezer.

2.  Using your small cookie cutter, remove a small heart off the top of the cupcake.

3. Using a piping bag or ziplock bag,  fill in the heart with your frosting.

TIP: The frosting will fill in smoother if you warm it up in the microwave for a couple seconds (5-7 seconds).

SO cute, right?!

Hi! I love this idea! What size cookie cutter did you use? I’m seeing 1 1/2″ and 2″ online but can’t tell what would be the right size. Thanks!

The one I used was about 1.5 inches 🙂 I hope that helps.

Hi, this is absolutely stunning. It seems so easy to make and I’m actually going to try to make this as gluten free since I can’t eat wheat. I also actually listed this recipe on my blog. I hope you don’t mind.

Hope you have a good valentine’s day!
