Air Fryer Baked Sweet Potatoes

Come let me show you how to make Air Fryer Baked Sweet Potatoes that are crispy on the outside while fluffy and soft on the inside. Once fully cooked, slice your sweet potatoes open and season with salt with optional toppings such as butter, chopped chives, shredded cheese, crispy bacon bits, and sour cream.

Recipe Notes:

  • If you decide to add some grated cheese to the top of your potatoes once baked and opened, be sure to use a block of cheese instead of pre-shredded cheese for maximum flavor and for best melt.
  • As all models of air fryers differ, use the cooking time as a guide and check the settings on your air fryer. If your potatoes are not crispy enough at the end of the cooking time, just add a few extra minutes, checking that they don’t burn.
  • When selecting a potato, make sure it’s firm and free of blemishes and sprouts. If subsequent to purchasing, your potatoes begin to sprout, trim these off before cooking.
What if I don’t have an air fryer?

If you don’t own an air fryer, make these sweet potatoes in the oven instead. Prepare the potatoes as you would for the air fryer, add them to a baking tray lined with parchment paper, and bake at 400F for 35-40.

What toppings work with these baked sweet potatoes?

Keep your air fryer baked sweet potatoes simple with just some butter and freshly chopped chives or add shredded cheese, sour cream, or even top the potatoes with marshmallows and pop back into the air fryer for a minute or two to toast the marshmallows.

Can I use other types of potatoes for this recipe?

Absolutely! I’ve used sweet potatoes in this recipe but you can use other kinds of potatoes too. When choosing which potatoes to buy from the grocery store, keep the texture of potatoes in mind. The most crispy, fluffy potatoes are those that are high in starch and low in moisture like Russet Potatoes.

How do I ensure that my sweet potatoes come out crispy?

To ensure that your sweet potatoes come out of the air fryer with crispy outer edges while soft and fluffy on the inside, make sure that you don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket. There needs to be enough space between the potatoes to allow good air circulation for the potatoes to crisp up beautifully.

It’s also important that you toss the potatoes mid-cook so that all sides are given the chance to get super crispy.
