Easy Halloween Monster Rice Krispie Treats

Easy Halloween Monster Rice Krispie Treats on a plate with a hand taking one

Here’s a fun little treat for the spooky season: Easy Halloween Monster Rice Krispie Treats  . These are just like my regular Always Soft and Chewy Rice Crispy Treats, but with a spooky (and delicious) twist.

First you dip the tops of the treats in melted chocolate (because what dessert doesn’t go better with melted chocolate)? They’re a little hard to handle when they’re warm and gooey, so you might want to chill them in the fridge for an hour or so first.

Then comes the real fun part: sprinkle on candy googly eyes. Go nuts with these: they’re monsters, so they can have however many eyes you want. One eye, three eyes, a dozen eyes scattered all over—you can’t go wrong.

To make these even more fun, you can use white chocolate dyed with your favorite food coloring to whatever color you want. I’ve done them here in blue, purple, and pink, for a colorful monster parade.

This cute li’l monsters are great for classroom parties, a food craft, or a special treat. For the kids, I mean, of course…though you might have to have just one yourself to make sure they’re all right…

I utterly failed in making these. When I added the water based food coloring to the melted chocolate, the chocolate turned into a play-doh/sand like consistency and my bowl of chocolate was ruined. I researched that chocolate tends to be oil-based and the food coloring is water based which spells disaster. Is there something special that you did or a specific type of food coloring that you used?

    Thank you–they still tasted yummy.
