Very Berry Kiwi Smoothie Bowl

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I love smoothies.

They’re healthy, they’re tasty, they’re versatile. And they’re great when you’re in a rush, because you can just pour your meal into a glass you can hold with one hand while you’re doing something else with the other.

But what about those times when you aren’t in a hurry? What if you’d rather sit down at the table and enjoy a nice, leisurely meal you can eat with a spoon, instead of slurping it through a straw?

Well, guess what…you can have your smoothie and eat it too, instead of drinking it. Just blend all the ingredients together as usual, but pour the mixture into a bowl instead, and eat it like a soup.

A nice thing about enjoying a smoothie this way is that you can top it with bigger chunks that wouldn’t fit through a straw – fruit, oats, nuts, or whatever you like. So with every spoonful, you get a blend of smooth, chewy, and crunchy.

Here’s an example: Very Berry Kiwi Smoothie Bowl. This starts out like a regular berry smoothie, with mixed berries, yogurt, and juice. But then you can top it with sliced kiwi, strawberries, oats, and chopped pecans, for a much heartier breakfast than the smoothie all by itself.

So now you have a choice: a smoothie as a quickie meal in a glass, or a smoothie as a leisurely meal in a bowl. Because variety is the spice of breakfast.

NOTE: You can use fresh or frozen fruit for this. If you use fresh, you will want to add a handful of ice to the blender.
