WHAT IS HAWAIIAN GARLIC SHRIMP?

  • Hawaiian garlic shrimp is another classic Hawaiian dish that you can easily make in the comfort of your kitchen.
  • This dish is centered around shell-on shrimp that has been tossed with spices and cornstarch and then coated in a gorgeous garlic butter sauce. I’ve opted to use peeled and deveined shrimp for this recipe although some recipes do use shell-on shrimps.
  • Hawaiian garlic shrimp is usually served with lemon wedges and perfectly cooked rice! ingredients for Hawaiian garlic shrimp

CAN I MAKE THIS ON THE STOVE IF I DON’T HAVE AN AIR FRYER?

  • Yes! This dish has for the most part in previous years been made on the stove top, considering air fryer machines are recent kitchen appliance inventions!
  • If you do opt to make this dish on your stove, simply follow these steps:
  1. Make the garlic sauce – Add the butter into a pan and wait for it to melt over a medium heat. Once it’s melted, add the garlic and cook for 2-3 minutes until the garlic turns a golden brown. Pour the sauce into a bowl and set it aside until the shrimps have been cooked.
  2. Cook the shrimp – Melt some butter in a large frying pan and fry the shrimp. The frying time will differ in the frying pan compared to an air fryer so be watchful and rather start in smaller batches if you are unsure.
  3. Assemble – once the shrimp is cooked and ready, pour the garlic sauce over the fried shrimps. Toss the shrimps in the sauce until you feel like all of them have been evenly coated in the garlic sauce, and presto! You’ve just cooked this dish completely on the stove top.

TIPS FOR MAKING AIR FRYER HAWAIIAN GARLIC SHRIMP

  • Allow for sufficient space between the shrimps in the air fryer basket. That way they will cook more evenly and get a good crispy outer edge.
  • Drying the shrimp helps when it comes to producing crispy fried shrimps. Blotting the shrimp with a paper towel helps to absorb as much moisture as possible so I don’t suggest skipping this step.
  • Flipping the shrimp half way through the cooking time will ensure that each piece of shrimp cooks and crisps on both sides.
  • You can use air fryer liners when frying the shrimp which will make the cleanup that much easier!
