At our house, we’re big fans of salmon. We love to cook it lots of different ways: glazed with honey in a frying pan, in a foil packet with asparagus, as a sheet pan dinner with carrots and green beans, and with dill butter sauce in the air fryer. But on a hot summer day, there’s no better way to cook salmon than on the grill.

They key to a really luscious grilled salmon is a good marinade. For this Marinated Grilled Salmon, I used a combination of melted butter, honey, lemon, garlic, mustard, and fresh thyme. Letting the salmon steep in that for a good 15 to 45 minutes soaks all those sweet, sour, and savory flavors right into its fishy flesh.

After that, all the salmon needs to get it ready for the table is a quick searing over a hot flame. That gets the fish flaky and tender without drying it out.

Served hot off the grill, with a few lemon slices to bring out its flavor still more, this Marinated Grilled Salmon is absolutely ambrosial. Pair it with rice or potatoes and a simple green veggie to make a delicious, satisfying summer meal.

What is another variation I can make?

You could also make a variation of this dish with other types of fish such as tilapia, cod, flounder, etc.

You can also make this grilled salmon by wrapping the marinaded salmon in aluminum foil and grilling without the filets in direct contact with the grill grate.

Can I make this ahead of time and freeze it?

Yes, you can make grilled salmon ahead of time and freeze it for up to 6 months. Be sure to thaw completely in a refrigerator before reheating and serving. 

Grilled salmon can be stored in an air-tight container in a refrigerator for up to 4 days or in a freezer for up to 6 months. 

Can I make this salmon in the oven?

If you do not have a grill, you can make this salmon in an oven, baked at 375 degrees for 30 minutes or until the salmon is cooked completely.

  3. Cover the bowl and place it in a refrigerator for 15-45 minutes. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.

  • 4 salmon filets
  • 1/4 cup melted butter 1/2 stick
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon mustard powder
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons garlic minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 teaspoons thyme

Instructions
