Birthday Cake Lush Cake
If you’re looking for a great alternative to a classic birthday cake then this Birthday Cake Lush Cake is just for you!

Birthday Cake Lush Cake is a layered dessert with a crushed Golden Oreo cookie crust, cream cheese layer, vanilla pudding layer with sprinkles, whipped topping, and extra sprinkles as garnish. This lush cake has the flavor of a traditional birthday cake but in a refrigerated dessert form!
Recipe Notes:
- You can use any extra Golden Oreo cookies as a crumbled topping to this lush cake.
- To soften your cream cheese for a smooth mixing, make sure to leave your cream cheese out at room temperature while preparing your cookie crust. You can also warm up your cream cheese in the microwave for 15 seconds on HIGH (placing it on a microwavable plate).
- It’s best for the Golden Oreo cookies to be crumbled into a fine consistency for the buttery cookie crust which is why I recommend using a food process instead of crushing the cookies with a rolling pin.
- This birthday cake lush cake is best served chilled!
- It’s important to use instant pudding and not cooked and served pudding otherwise this dessert won’t set correctly.
Absolutely! The only reason why there’s baking time listed in this recipe is due to the crushed Golden Oreo crust that requires a brief time in the oven.
If you want to make this a no-bake lush cake instead, you can chill the cookie crust in the freezer for about 10 minutes before adding the other lush cake layers to the cake pan.
This birthday cake lush cake can be stored for 3-4 days in the refrigerator in an airtight container.
It’s important to note that this lush cake shouldn’t be left at room temperature for any extended amount of time due to the cream cheese and whipped topping, which can go off quickly, particularly in warm temperatures.
Yes, this dessert freezes well for up to 3 months. Thaw the frozen cake in the fridge before serving it.
1. You can use birthday cake Oreos, any wafer cookies, sweet crackers (like Graham crackers), or other types of vanilla sandwich cookies to make the crust of this birthday cake lush cake.
2. Add additional garnish to the top of your cake such as chocolate shavings, coconut flakes or a sprinkling of crushed Golden Oreos.
3. For a low sugar birthday cake lush cake, consider using a low sugar or sugar free vanilla instant pudding.
4. Make mini birthday cake lush cakes by using these mini pie pans or ramekins.

HOW DO I HEAT TREAT THE CAKE MIX?
You can heat treat your cake mix in two ways: the microwave or the oven.
For the microwave method, microwave the cake mix in a microwave safe bowl for 2 x 30-second intervals, stirring in between. Allow the cake mix to reach room temperature before adding to the lush cake recipe.
For the oven method, place the cake mix on a large tray lined with parchment paper and cover the tray evenly with the cake mix. Cook at 350 F for 5 minutes and then allow the mix to reach room temperature before adding to the lush cake recipe.
Birthday Cake Lush Cake
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees and spray a 9×13 baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.
- In a small mixing bowl, combine crushed Oreos and melted butter. Mix well until all of the Oreo mix is damp and has the consistency of wet sand.
- Pour crumb mixer into the bottom of the baking dish and press flat with the palms of your hands. Be sure to press firmly and evenly into the corners and edges.
- Bake for 6-7 minutes. When done, allow to cool before use.
- In a medium mixing bowl, combine cream cheese and powdered sugar together using an electric hand or stand mixer. Mix for 1-2 minutes until fully blended.
- Add one tub of whipped topping and continue to mix. When done, set aside.
- In a separate mixing bowl, combine cake mix, pudding, and milk. Mix together on low to medium speed for about 2 minutes or until the pudding begins to slightly thicken.
- Add the rainbow sprinkles to the mixture, reserving a handful for garnishing the top of the cake. Mix well until the sprinkles are evenly distributed.
- Pour cream cheese mixture over the completely cooled crust and spread evenly using a rubber spatula.
- Top with pudding mixture, spreading evenly.
- Finally, top with the final tub of whipped topping and spread evenly creating a smooth and flat surface.
- Sprinkle with rainbow sprinkles and place inside the refrigerator to chill for at least 4 hours or overnight before serving.

Not sure what I did wrong but the cake mixture added to the pudding made it very lumpy, bits of unmixed cake mix that I couldn’t get out. The rest of the recipe was good, flavor was nice- I think I’ll try it again and attempt to sift the cake mix into the pudding mix and milk next time
4 stars from me (for whatever reason maybe it’s just my phone but I’m not able to rate it)
