Brown Sugar Oat Milk Espresso (Copycat Starbucks) 

Brown Sugar Oat Milk Espresso is certainly a drink that’s popular on the Starbucks menu for those who prefer vegan, plant-based, dairy-free, and gluten-free drinks.

This copycat beverage is essentially an iced latte, made with a flavorful brown sugar syrup, oat milk, espresso, and then topped with frothed oat milk and a light dusting of ground cinnamon!

Recipe Notes:

  • While I’ve topped this brown sugar oat milk espresso with frothed milk, you could add some extra sweetness by topping it with whipped cream instead. 
  • It’s best to let the espresso cool a bit before pouring it over the ice in the glass otherwise it will start to melt the ice quickly. 
  • There are different brands of oat milk, some of higher quality than others. Try to use a good quality oat milk because it really does improve the flavor of this drink. 
  • If you prefer, you can enjoy this drink as a hot or warm beverage rather than an iced latte. 
  • While this drink is vegan, you could opt to use regular dairy milk instead of the oat milk if you want to. The taste will be a little richer and creamy!

Absolutely! While I’ve used oat milk for this copycat drink, you could also use another plant-based milk such as almond or cashew milk.

How should I serve this drink?

Serve this chilled drink over cubes of ice with a topping of frothed oat milk or whipped cream and a sprinkle of ground cinnamon.

You can crush the ice into smaller pieces if you like or even serve this drink as a hot beverage instead!

Ingredients
 

Brown Sugar Syrup

  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Iced Coffee

  • 1/2 cup oat milk
  • 1/2 cup espresso or dark roast coffee
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar syrup
  • Frothed oat milk to top
  • Cinnamon for dusting

Instructions

  • In a small saucepan, combine water, brown sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Simmer over low heat, stirring occasionally.
  • Once brown sugar has completely dissolved, take off heat and set aside to cool.
  • After filling a glass with ice, pour oat milk and espresso/coffee on top. Stir then add in your cooled brown sugar syrup.
  • Top with frothed oat milk and dust with a hint of cinnamon. Enjoy!

Notes

NOTE: The syrup recipes will make more than one server. You can stored in the fridge for a few days to use in other drinks.
