Candied Sugar Peanuts
Let me introduce you to some of the yummiest holiday snack nuts…..Candied Sugar Peanuts!
These peanuts with their crunchy sugar-coated layers are highly addictive and make brilliant holiday snacks to add to your snacks table or as on-the-go treats. Heck, why not even enjoy a handful while catching up on some reading or enjoying movie night with the family?!
While indulging in these crunchy delights, you’ll be happy to know that they are color-free and egg-free (that’s right my vegan friends – these are for you too!). I’ve also reduced the amount of white sugar used and replaced it with brown sugar.
I love the extra flavoring of vanilla that this recipe includes but you can get even more adventurous and add cinnamon, nutmeg or even pumpkin pie spice!

TIPS FOR MAKING CANDIED SUGAR PEANUTS
- This recipe is so super easy that you could easily make a few batches at a time and then gift them to friends and family for the holidays. Place them in a jar or transparent plastic sleeve and add some decorative holiday string with a gift tag!
- You can easily use this recipe with pecans instead of peanuts if that’s your preference!
- As far as flavors go, I’ve only added vanilla to the mix but you also have the option of adding other flavors and spices such as cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, gingerbread spice, or any other flavor combination you like!
Candied Sugar Peanuts
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, set aside. In a large skillet, combine peanuts, sugar and water and bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring constantly.
- Once the mixture starts to boil, continue to stir and cook over medium heat until the water evaporates and the sugar is gooey and caramelize.
Continue to cook and stir the peanuts until all the sugar has caramelized and no more sugar mixture remains in the pan (it’s mostly sticking to nuts). Remove from heat and immediately stir in 1 tsp vanilla extract. - Spread out on your prepared baking sheet. Let cool completely and then break up nuts into individual pieces. Store in an airtight container.
HOW LONG CAN I STORE THESE CANDIED PEANUTS?
- Candied Peanuts can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one month, making great snacks to make ahead for the holidays or to gift to friends and family.
CAN I FREEZE CANDIED PEANUTS?
- Yes, you can! Store these candied peanuts in an airtight container or freezer bag for up to 3 months in the freezer. When you want to enjoy them, place them on your counter for a few hours till they come to room temperature.
WHAT CAN I SERVE THESE CANDIED PEANUTS WITH?
- Candied peanuts are, of course, great as stand-alone snacks. However, they can also upgrade various recipes as delicious crunchy toppings. Add them to your salads for a sweetness that won’t be overpowering or take them on your next road trip as a convenient on-the-go snack!
