Cheesy Chicken Casserole on a plate

It’s the kind of casserole recipe that picky eaters, big families, and cheese lovers all agree on. This is a great way to use leftover or rotisserie chicken, and it pairs perfectly with garlic bread or green beans on the side. Whether you’re feeding a crowd or just want leftovers for the next day, this is the family dinner you’ll want to make again and again.

Ingredients Notes

  • Chicken broth – Helps thin the sauce just enough to keep everything moist.
  • Shredded cheddar cheese – Melted over the top, it creates that irresistible cheesy finish.
  • Sour cream – Adds tang and creaminess that balances all the savory ingredients.
  • Garlic powder & onion powder – Bring extra flavor without needing to sauté anything over medium-high heat.
  • Salt & pepper – Essential seasonings to taste.
  • Parsley – A fresh, colorful garnish on top of the casserole.
Can I make this ahead of time?

Yes! Assemble the casserole and store it (unbaked) in the fridge for up to 24 hours. Bake when ready.

What protein can I use besides chicken?

Leftover turkey or chopped ham work well. You could also use cooked ground chicken or turkey.

What size dish should I use?

A standard 9×13-inch casserole dish or prepared baking dish works perfectly for this amount.

Storage instructions:

Fridge: Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
Freezer: Freeze in individual portions or in the baking dish (covered tightly) for up to 2 months.
Reheating: Warm in the oven at 350°F or microwave single portions until hot throughout.
