Crockpot Salisbury Steak
If you’ve never had Salisbury steak, there’s one thing you need to be clear on: it’s not steak. It’s actually more like a really good, juicy hamburger – but instead of serving it on a bun with mustard or mayo, you serve it over mashed potatoes, topped with onions and mushrooms and rich, brown gravy. This turns plain old ground beef into a company dinner.

Now, the key to a good Salisbury steak is the gravy. And the key to a good gravy is a long, slow cooking, which gives all the juices from the beef, onions, and mushrooms plenty of time to blend.
In other words…it’s a perfect job for the Crockpot.

This Crockpot Salisbury Steak is simple to make. First, you make the beef patties, mixed up with some bread crumbs and seasonings to make them extra juicy and flavorful. Give those a quick browning in a pan, then pop them in the crock with the gravy for a nice, long soak. After several hours on low heat, you just take out the patties, thicken up the gravy, and combine it back together to serve.

Dished up over potatoes, this is as tender and flavorful as a real steak – and a lot cheaper.

Is it ok to overlap the hamburgers? Will they still cook?
It is ok if they overlap a bit.
I just started getting your emails and this recipe came up. The photo you took made it look so delicious I had to make it. I followed the recipe as you wrote and it was so easy to put together and it came out so delicious. I had the same food on our plates just like you had in your photo. And the whole family could not stop saying this is soooo good. This will be a recipe I will be keeping and making again real soon. Thank you for sharing.
I am so happy you loved the recipes Marlene!
This was simple and good. Thanks for the nice keeper.
How long would I cook if made in Instant Pot? Thanks.
I’ve only made this recipe in the crockpot, so I can’t say for sure Janice.
I made this recipe in the Instant Pot last night. I sautéed the onions and mushrooms then added the browned patties and rest of ingredient following the recipe. Cooked for 10 minutes. Excellent, will make again and again.
Wonderful Janice! Thank you so much for coming back to let us know. I can’t wait to try this in the IP!
