Smothered Bacon Green Bean Casserole

This Smothered Bacon Green Bean Casserole is a simple and tasty way to jazz up the holiday dinner table. And when I say simple, I mean simple. Anyone can make this recipe, and believe me when I say, this will be the side dish EVERYONE will be gushing over.

Yes, fresh green beans can be used in this recipe. For best results, trim the ends and blanch them in boiling water for about 5 minutes before shocking them in an ice bath. This will keep the beans vibrant and tender. Drain them well before using.
Any large baking dish or large skillet that can hold the green bean mixture will work. Just ensure it’s oven-safe if you’re planning to bake the casserole.
Absolutely! Assemble the casserole but hold off on baking it. Cover it with plastic wrap or aluminum foil and store in the refrigerator. Before serving, bake it as directed, possibly adding a few extra minutes to compensate for starting from a cold state.
If soy sauce isn’t available, you can use tamari or a bit of chicken broth with a pinch of salt for a similar umami flavor profile.
Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container and refrigerated for up to 3-4 days. Reheat in a microwave or in the oven until heated through.
Smothered Bacon Green Bean Casserole
Ingredients:
4 can (14.5 oz) any style Del Monte Green Beans, drained
10 slices of bacon, cooked
2 Tablespoons soy sauce
1/3 cup light brown sugar
1/4 cup butter, melted
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon salt
Directions:
- Start by preheating your oven to 350 degrees. Place the drained green beans into a large mixing bowl. Set aside.

- For this recipe, I like to use Del Monte green beans. They are a quick and easy solution that don’t compromise the quality or taste of my holiday dishes.

- Prepare bacon according to package. (I love cooking my in the oven) Cut in to large pieces and set aside.

- Combine the soy sauce, brown sugar, melted butter, garlic powder, salt and pepper into a small bowl. Stir until well combined.

- Next, pour mixture over green beans and add your bacon. Gently stir, until beans are evenly coated.


- Place the green beans into a 9×13 casserole dish or baking pan. Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

Can this be made the night before and then cooked? Didn’t know if it would get too soggy or not turn out as well.
I fixed this for a high school football team. They loved it! Almost all of them came back for seconds and one filled up an entire plate with the green beans! Definitely got those 5 compliments and then some. Will never make my green beans any other way!
