The classic fall treat, in handy pull-apart form.
If there’s one treat that really brings back childhood memories for me, it’s got to be caramel apples. The tart crunch of the apple under those layers of sweet, gooey caramel and chocolate drizzle is like biting into the taste of fall.
But of course, there’s one big problem with caramel apples: there’s really no way to eat them neatly. That sticky caramel always gets on your hair and your clothes, or gets coated in dirt and bits of debris. If only there was some way to enjoy that apple-caramel-chocolate combo in a less messy form!
Well, now there is. This Caramel Apple Pull Apart Bread takes those sweet, sticky ingredients and bakes them inside a crust of frozen pizza dough. And since the dough is already sliced up into chunks when you bake it, all you have to do is pull off a chunk and pop it right in your mouth. No muss, no fuss…just that classic caramel apple flavor in a much more convenient form.
Just like my Pizza Pull Apart Bread, this dish is great for a party. But it also makes a delicious dessert or an after-school snack. Because with a treat like this, any day is a special occasion.
Caramel Apple Pull Apart Bread
Ingredients:
13 ounce pizza dough, defrosted
2 green apples (or red) chopped
4 tablespoons of butter
¼ teaspoon of salt
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
¼ cup of white granulated sugar
2 teaspoons water
¼ cup of caramel topping sauce
3-4 tablespoons of semi-sweet chocolate chips
Note:
Drain excess liquid from apple mixture before adding it to the bread.
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
2. In a pan over medium high heat, melt butter, add in apple. Cook apples for 4 minutes, add in vanilla, sugar, and water. Lower temperature to medium low. Allow apples to cook for an additional 6-8 minutes while stirring occasionally or until apples become tender enough to pierce through with a fork. Set apples into a bowl aside to allow to cool.
3. On a floured surface roll pizza dough into a 15×9 inch (give or take) rectangle. Cut off the edges to make sure it’s straight.
4. Spread caramel sauce over the pizza dough, sprinkle with apples and top with chocolate chips.
5. With a pizza cutter, lengthwise cut into six even strips, make two separate stacks of three strips. Take the pizza cutter and cut each strap width wise into three equal squares.
6. Take a well greased 9×5 inch loaf pan, turn it vertically and stack the squares into the loaf pan.
7. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until bread is deeply brown (not burnt).
8. Remove from heat, allow bread to completely cool for about an hour.
9. Drizzle with additional caramel topping, if desired.

Will this work with refrigerated pizza dough as well?
