Just in case anyone out there doesn’t already know about peanut butter kisses, they’re an easy family favorite that’s super easy to make. Just bake a batch of peanut butter cookies and press a chocolate kiss into the top of each one. It’s a cookie and candy in one.

Well, these chocolate acorns are an even easier – and cuter – twist on that idea. Because they don’t actually require any baking at all.

The cookie part of this treat is a mini Nutter Butter bites, which is just a tiny bit bigger than the base of the chocolate kiss. You glue this to Hershey kisses with melted peanut butter chips, so it looks like an acorn with a little cookie cap. And for the final touch, you attach an entire peanut butter chip to the other side of the cookie to make the stem.

This easy cookie-candy treat is the perfect dessert for fall. Enjoy these adorable acorn kisses after a day of apple picking, or while curled up on the couch in front of a football game.

What You Will Need

  • mini nutter butters
  • dark chocolate hershey’s kisses
  • peanut butter chips, heaping and divided

Recipe Notes:

Cookie Choice: The recipe calls for mini Nutter Butters for their peanut butter flavor and shape that mimics an acorn. However, if you’re not a fan of peanut butter, feel free to experiment with other cookies like mini vanilla wafers or even chocolate chip cookies for a different twist.

Melting Tips: When melting peanut butter chips, use a low microwave setting to avoid burning them. Melting in short bursts and stirring frequently ensures a smooth texture.

Temperature Control: Make sure your cookies and kisses are at room temperature before starting. This helps the melted peanut butter chips adhere better and prevents the chocolate from cracking.

Getting Creative: For a festive touch, you can roll the edges of the chocolate kiss in sprinkles or finely chopped nuts before attaching it to the cookie.

Setting the Cookies: If you’re in a hurry, you can set the cookies in the freezer for about 5 minutes instead of the refrigerator to speed up the process.

Storing the Cookies: Once set, store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature. They can last for several days, making them perfect for advance preparation.

Peanut Butter Chips: You can use a variety of different chips for this recipe.  Feel free to swap out white chocolate or butterscotch chips

How should I store my Acorn Kiss Cookies?

These Acorn Kiss Cookies should be stored in an airtight container or bag at room temperature for 1-2 weeks. You can store them for longer in the refrigerator but the texture of the cookies may change. For the longest storage you can freeze them, for 3-4 months, but I definitely recommend bringing them to room temperature before serving. Frozen kisses are very difficult to eat.

Can my kids help me make these Acorn Kiss Cookies?

This is such a great treat to get the whole family making together! Since it only takes 3 ingredients and minimal heating, there will be plenty for everyone to do together. My little ones love dipping the kisses and placing them on the cookie base while my older ones are great at prepping the cookies and putting on the little stems. Turn off the TVs and tablets for a half an hour and get everyone working together in the kitchen! A perfect family friendly recipe.

Can I make any changes to this recipe?

You’ll find there are many ways to adapt this recipe to fit your needs! For the nut free family you can use nilla wafers and butterscotch or chocolate chips to eliminate the peanut ingredients. If you want a bit more of a rustic look you can use iced oatmeal cookies or if you want a smoother look use mini nilla wafers instead. You can also do a whimsical approach with hugs instead of kisses and use a striped cookie or chocolate chip cookie for the base. If you really want to go all out, you can dip your cookies in melted chocolate before making your cookies so that they have a uniform color and look to them.

My peanut butter chips aren’t melting properly. What should I do?

Be sure not to overheat. If they’re not melting smoothly, add a teaspoon of vegetable shortening or coconut oil to help thin out the mixture.

Can I make these cookies ahead of time?

Yes, these cookies can be made a few days in advance. Store them in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
