I just figured out a way to combine two of my favorite things…
Bloody Mary’s have always been one of my favorite drinks. You can load them up with pickles, olives, shrimp, mushrooms and celery. I’ve even seen small burger skewered in one of them on Pinterest. I NEED to find a restaurant that does that!
And who doesn’t love a drink that’s acceptable to sip on for breakfast! Ha!
Since I’m married to a vegetarian, we don’t have steak all that often. So when I make it, it’s a special treat. And boy is this Crockpot Bloody Mary Flank Steak a treat! Since it has been snowing non-stop here, I love that I can use my crockpot to make this delicious meal. However, once summer rolls around, you’ll see me using this marinade recipe to grill up a beautiful flank steak.
So if you are lucky enough to have beautiful weather, feel free to use the grill instead of the crockpot. Simply follow the marinade direction, and then grill as you normally would 🙂
Grill or Crockpot Bloody Mary Flank Steak
- 1 small onion, cut into large chunks
- 2 ribs of celery, cut into 2 inch pieces
- 1.5 – 2lb flank steak
- 12 oz can V8
- 4-5 cloves of garlic, minced
- 2 teaspoons prepared horseradish
- 2 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon hot sauce
- 2 Tablespoons fresh lime juice (about 1 lime)
- 1/4 teaspoon celery salt
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- In a large 1-gallon ziplock bag, mix together V8, garlic, prepared horseradish, Worcestershire sauce , hot sauce, lime juice, celery salt, salt, and pepper. Add the flank steak to the bag, Seal the bag and marinate in the refrigerator for 8- 12 hours.
- Place onion and celery pieces at the bottom of the crockpot. These will act as a “meat stand” for the steak, to prevent the meat from sitting on the bottom of the crockpot and drying out.
- Put marinaded flank steak on top of onions and celery. Pour the marinade over the steak. Cover and cook for 4-5 hours on HIGH or on LOW for 7-8 hours.

I was just curious what you make as a side dish with this recipe.
I will be making it tomorrow for dinner and wasn’t sure what to make with it.
Corey says
Salads, pasta salads, roasted veggies, roasted potatoes are also a yummy side 🙂
Tracie says
Any idea how long you grill the flank steak?
Corey says
ON a medium/high setting on your grill for about 4 minutes per side 🙂

Having this tonight – hope its great! A little nervous because at the grocery store, the only flank steaks started at $8/lb!!! I’ve got a $19 steak in my crockpot and I’m nervous!!!!
Cristy says
This looks great! Do you think I could use a good Bloody Mary mix as the marinade instead?
Corey says
Iv’e never tried before Cristy, but please let us know if you do and how it turns out 🙂
Rheta says
When you cook this in the crockpot, is it rare or well done when it’s finished?
Corey says
Between medium and medium well.

i made this last night and it was a hit! followed the marinade recipe exactly and let it hang out for eight hours. the only change i made was once it was done marinating, i just cooked it on the stovetop. five minutes per side in a hot pan and then rested for ten under foil was a nice rare/medium rare.
we had it with a green salad & smitten kitchen’s blue cheese red potato tart. my meat & potatoes partner loved it too and went back for seconds. this one’s a keeper, thanks! 🙂

I cannot wait to make this tomorrow! I have some mushrooms I thought about putting on the bottom/base of the crockpot with the onion and celery.
Do you think that would work out, or would you recommend I cook them separately?
Thanks for the recipe!!
Corey says
I think that onion celery base will be great Aston!
