Mom’s Killer Caramel Brownies
If there’s one dessert that pretty much can’t miss, it’s got to be homemade brownies. Even your basic, everyday chocolate brownie is a treat that brings smiles all around.
But this is definitely not your basic, everyday chocolate brownie.
This recipe takes the classic brownie to a whole new level. It starts with a rich, buttery, velvety batter made from German chocolate cake mix, which you can leave plain or load up with chopped nuts. You could bake this all by itself, and it would make a pretty great brownie…but we’re not going to settle for pretty great. Oh no.

Instead, we’re going to bake it for just ten minutes, and then top it with a layer of creamy, gooey melted caramel. On top of that, we’re going to sprinkle on chocolate chips, which will melt ever so slightly as they sink into the warm caramel. And to top it all off, we’re going to crumble the rest of the batter on top by hand, which adds a whole new dimension of texture.
When you bite into one of these brownies, the flavor unfolds layer by layer – from the crumbly, chocolatey cake at the top to the moist, velvety cake at the bottom, with the gooey chocolate-caramel explosion in the middle.
With these Mom’s Killer Caramel Brownies, you’ll think you’ve died and gone to dessert heaven.

Yummy! I can not wait to make one. Thanks Corey for this awesome recipe!
This was a hit with my family! A bit messy to prepare but worth it in the end! Pure deliciousness not one bite left behind!
I’m so happy your family loved it!
Loved the recipe and enjoyed making the recipe with my 7 yr Grand daughter.? Very delicious dessert for my church picnic:)
I do have one question..recipe called for 3/4 c melted butter, divided, but did not address where the last butter amt was to be added… I had 1/3 left over???? was this an error or was the addition of melted butter suppose to be added to batter in the first step along with 1/3 c evaporated milk?
The omission of less butter did not change the taste and was less fat but would appreciate your input on the recipe before Inpass it on to others that have requested a copy..
Thank you, Evelyn

Evelyn, in going back over the recipe I think she got the “divided” on the wrong line. The milk is supposed to be divided – not the butter. Hope this helps!
Now I’m drooling. Putting this on my list of desserts to make!
I haven’t made the recipe yet, that’s why no rating. In the video it uses a brownie mix, but on the list of ingredients for the recipe, it says German Chocolate cake mix. Just wondering witch is correct. I have loved ALL your recipes I have made and looking forward to making these delicious looking brownies once I get some clarification. Thank you in advance!
Hi Pamela!
It is German Chocolate Cake Mix. Thanks for clarifying. I hope you love the Killer Brownies!
