A sweet treat to share with all your favorite people.
Every year, for weeks before Valentine’s Day, store shelves are full of chocolates in big, red, heart-shaped boxes. These make nice gifts for that special someone, but they’re a little too lovey-dovey for all the other someones in your life.
Your kids. Your coworkers. Your wonderful neighbor who’s helped you shovel your snow all winter. These people are special, too – and they deserve a little sweetness.
Here’s a chocolate treat that’s great for sharing with all your favorite people: my Valentine’s Day Chocolate Bark. It’s got a layer of semisweet chocolate on the bottom, topped with a layer of pink-tinted white chocolate and dolled up with colorful sprinkles and message hearts. (If you heard the news reports saying these weren’t available this year, don’t panic – the Sweethearts brand isn’t around right now, but the rival Conversation Hearts brand is still in stores. Whew!)
You can take a batch of this to the office to pass around, or send your kids to school with some to share with friends. Or you can break up the big batch into smaller portions and give them as gifts – maybe labeled with some of my free Valentine’s Day printables.
Valentine’s Day Chocolate Bark – because V-day isn’t just for sweethearts.
Valentine’s Day Chocolate Bark
12oz bag chocolate chips
1 cup white chocolate chips
1 cup pink candy melts (if you want to add flavor, try the strawberry melts!)
about 1 cup conversation hearts
Valentine’s themed sprinkles
Parchment or wax paper
1. Double boil chocolate chips to melt them. (Done by heating a pot half full of water over medium-high, then placing a large metal bowl on top with the chocolate chips. Stir frequently until it becomes smooth and easy to pour)
2. Line a baking sheet with parchment or wax paper. Pour melted chocolate onto it and spread out with a spatula or large spoon to form a level surface. Let cool for a few minutes.
3. Melt the white chocolate and candy melts in separate bowls (you can use a microwave if you want to save time)
4. Pour lines of each color over your chocolate, alternating until your entire pan is covered.
5. Take a fork and lightly swirl the top layer (don’t go down to the chocolate) until you have a marbled look that you are happy with.
6. Top with conversation hearts and sprinkles, then refrigerate for 30 minutes or let sit out for at least an hour to harden. Break apart and serve.
