Instant Pot Goulash

Instant Pot Goulash Recipe - Family Fresh Meals

How to make Goulash in the instant pot!

Last year, I came up with an easy goulash recipe that took about 40 minutes to make, with only 10 to 15 minutes of actual cooking time. This made a complete, hearty, one-pot meal that was also kid-friendly, and I was pretty happy with it.

But lately, I’ve been making a whole bunch of meals with my Instant Pot, and it got me to thinking. Could the Instant Pot make that easy goulash even easier and faster?

Turns out, it can.Instant Pot Goulash - goulash served in a bowl

This Instant Pot Goulash has all the same great stuff my original Grandma’s Easy Goulash: lean ground beef, tomatoes, noodles, cheese, and plenty of zesty seasoning. And it cooks in about half the time of the original.

You still have to brown the beef with onion and seasoning, but you can do that right in the Instant Pot on the sauté setting. Then you just toss in the rest of the ingredients (except the cheese) and cook it for five minutes on high pressure. Remove the bay leaves, add the cheese, and voilà – dinner is served.

Instant Pot Goulash – because the only thing better than an easy one-pot meal is a really easy one-pot meal.

Goulash time arrived at last and this is one to try. Definitely ! Thank you !

    1. Can you substitute a different type of pasta? If so, would the cook time change at all?

  2. It appears the Print version of the recipe does not have specific ingredient amounts?

    1. Hi Joan, The printable version is all fixed up! Thank you for letting me know 🙂

Made this last night for my dad, who hasn’t had homemade goulash since my mom got sick, which was… at least eight years ago. It was also my first time using my Instant Pot (after 10 months of it intimidating me from its box). It turned out perfectly, and it was a huge hit with my dad! Thank you so much for sharing this recipe!

(Most people who cook regularly probably know this, but I generally hate cooking and didn’t think about it. If you use beef stock, like I did, and you’re not a huge fan of salt, you may want to cut back on the seasoning salt. But we’re a salt-loving household, so it worked out.)

    1. THANK YOU! I haven’’t made or had goulash in decades…..it was a staple when I was growing up in the 70s and early 80s. It is generally just my hubby and I for dinner these days so I will plan on making a half batch of this, maybe this weekend. I can’t wait!!!!

This was delicious and my family loved it! Recipe worked perfectly! This was my first recipe that I had made in the Instant Pit. (Other than baked potatoes). The directions were clear and simple and also liked the pictures to assure me that mine “looked tight”! Thank you! I am looking forward to trying more of your recipes! 🙂

I have the Instant Pot Mini so would I cut the recipes in half? I’ve not used it yet so I just want to make sure nothing expands too much. I notice that most recipes I’m finding are for the 6 quart and mine is 3 quart. Is it safe to assume that most recipes are for the 6 quart even if they don’t say so?

    1. Yes, 99.9999% of recipes you’ll see for the IP are written for the 6qt as that’s the original size. You can cut them in half just make sure you have enough water in there or it will not come to pressure or burn. My honest opinion would be to get yourself a 6qt and save the 3qt for yougurt and rice (IPs make the BEST rice).

I have been craving goulash and got my Instant Pot a few weeks ago. This was not my first meal in the pot and it turned out great. I used penne pasta and next time will add more because I love the pasta. It was ready so fast, really happy with this recipe.

  9. Your recipe looks good and I am going to try it tonight. Would like to suggest you make a print button so I don’t have to copy and paste all over the place to print your recipes. Thanks:)

    1. Oops, just found the print version. Please disregard previous comment.

      1. Great! I was just logging on to let you know where the print button was. I hope you love the recipe.

      2. Can I add a can of red beans and also a can of corn? Would the cooking time still be the same?

  10. My Husband and I really enjoyed this recipe. Making it again. Obviously it is a keeper for us!!
