How to Make Apple Pie Spice Seasoning

homemade apple pie spice seasoning in a small glass jar with a small wooden spoon in the jar

A year or so ago, I posted a recipe for a DIY Pumpkin Pie Spice Seasoning. This stuff was incredibly handy to have on hand — not just for pumpkin pie, but for all the various things you can add pumpkin spice to, from lattes to pancake batter.

The one thing it wasn’t so good for? Apple pie. The cloves and the hefty dose of ginger in the pumpkin pie spice are great compliments for pumpkin, but these pungent spices taste unbalanced against the sweet-tart flavor of apple pie. It needed a spice blend all its own — one based mostly on cinnamon, with an undertone of nutmeg and just a hint of allspice and ginger.4 piles of seasoning on a small cutting board with apples in the background

And here it is: DIY Apple Pie Spice. Like the pumpkin spice mixture, it’s super easy to make: just blend all the spices and store in a sealed container.
