TIPS FOR MAKING BIG MAC CASSEROLE

  • Shredding your cheese from a block of cheese instead of having purchased pre-shredded cheese always seems to be best for overall taste and it also seems to melt the cheese better too.
  • You can pretty much use any cheese that melts well but be sure to use a flavored cheese as it’s required for flavoring. I wouldn’t suggest using mozzarella for this reason as I think it’s too mild. Your best bet is using a sharp cheddar.
  • The quantity of the Big Mac Sauce from the ingredients used is quite generous for the casserole. Go ahead and use as much as you’d like when adding to the casserole or you can serve some extra sauce on the side for your family and friends to add if they wish to.
  • The lettuce will definitely start to become soggy after the first day. It’s best to remove any lettuce from stored leftovers and just add some freshly shredded lettuce to your reheated casserole leftovers.

HOW SHOULD I STORE THIS BIG MAC CASSEROLE?

  • You can either store this Big Mac casserole in an airtight container or in the casserole dish, covered, in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or store it in the freezer (either baked or unbaked) for up to 3 months.
  • I suggest leaving the shredded lettuce and dill pickles off the top of the casserole when storing leftovers or making this casserole ahead of time since the lettuce will wilt and go soggy. You can always add fresh lettuce and pickles just prior to serving.
  • To reheat from storing in the refrigerator, simply place in the microwave or in the oven at 350 degrees until warm throughout.
  • To reheat from frozen, thaw overnight in the refrigerator and then reheat in the oven until heated throughout.
  • If you have frozen your casserole prior to having previously baked it then thaw overnight and place in the oven for the full baking time directed in this recipe, adding the shredded lettuce and pickle slices just prior to serving.

CAN I MAKE THIS BIG MAC CASSEROLE AHEAD OF TIME?

  • Yes, you can! Simply prep the recipe according to the directions above but wait to add your cheese topping till the casserole filling has cooled down completely. Once cool, add the shredded cheese, cover the casserole and refrigerate for up to 3 days.
  • When ready to serve, bake the casserole, top with sauce, shredded lettuce and sliced dill pickles and enjoy!

Thanks for all the great recipes Corey.. love them.

  2. Does this freeze well? I guess I’m mostly wondering about the meat.
We LOVED this recipe so much it is now on rotation but I’m moving toward freezer meal prepping as our schedule is SO busy.

    1. Yes, the meat does freeze well. I would wait to add on the other toppers until you are ready to serve.

  3. I only put the lettuce and pickles on the part I thought would be eaten the first night. I also used ketchup instead of buying French dressing that would probably not be eaten in my family. We’re more ranchy. Loved it.
