Taco Hand Pies

These deliciously hot and flaky hand pies are packed with taco seasoned ground beef, black beans, corn and blended cheese, making it a fantastic alternative and change from the classic taco!

These hand pies are perfect to add to your game-day appetizer table, as a road trip snack or for an easy midweek meal with a side of sour cream, rice, salsa or another side dish of your choice.

Recipe Notes:

  • If you have any remaining taco meat, store it in your refrigerator and use the leftovers during the following days to make a couple of soft tacos for lunch or as an easy midweek dinner.
  • For frozen pre-baked pies: Brush your pies with egg wash after thawed and then bake in the oven.
  • Have any leftover chicken or turkey? You can substitute the ground beef for leftover poultry. If you do, consider adding some cream cheese to the taco mix to avoid it being on the dry side. 
  • This recipe can easily be doubled if you plan on making a batch ahead of time and store in the freezer.

How should I store my leftover hand pies?

Once baked and then completely cooled, these hand pies can be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container for 3 to 4 days.

Can I freeze hand pies?

Yes, you can! These taco hand pies freeze very well. You can either assemble your taco hand pies and store them in the freezer prior to baking or store them in your freezer once they have baked and are completely cooled.

Place your hand pies on a baking sheet uncovered and store in the freezer or 2-3 hours or till hardened. Once hardened, transfer them to a freezer bag for up to 4 months.

To reheat, place your pies in the oven till heated throughout.

  1. Preheat your oven to 400. Brown your beef and add taco seasoning and ⅔ cup of water (per the package directions) and bring to a simmer. browned beef in a pan

  3. Using a 4 inch diameter biscuit cutter, cut circles into the pie dough and place a heaping TBSP of meat in the center of ½ of  the circle pieces. putting taco mixture on dough circles
  4. Beat your egg and then brush egg wash around the edges of the circles with meat in them. Then top with the remaining pie crust circles. Then using a fork or an uncrustable sandwich maker, make indentions around the edges so the filling does not leak out. uncooked hand pies on parchment

Ingredients
 

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 oz taco seasoning
  • 1 cup of taco/Mexican blended cheese
  • ½ cup of corn drained
  • ½ cup of black beans drained and rinsed
  • 1 egg
  • 2 pack refrigerated pie crust

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F. Brown your beef and add taco seasoning and ⅔ cup of water (per the package directions) and bring to a simmer.
  • Add your cheese and stir well.
  • Incorporate your corn and black beans.
  • Using a 4 inch diameter biscuit cutter, cut circles into the pie dough and place a heaping TBSP of meat in the center of ½ of the circle pieces.
