HOW CAN I ADAPT THIS RECIPE?
- The great thing about this Christmas Cookie Mix in a Jar is the fact that you can adapt it however you wish to suit your style or your recipient’s preferences. Consider the following ideas for varying this cookie mix jar:
- Change the base cookie mix to a sugar cookie, peanut butter or even oatmeal cookie mix.
- Omit the oats as an ingredient layer in your jar or substitute chopped nuts instead.
- Instead of M&Ms, add in chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, white chocolate chips, mint chips, peanut butter chips, holiday sprinkles or your favorite mix-ins instead.
- Change the color of M&Ms to suit a different holiday cookie jar. For example, just use green M&Ms for St Patrick’s day or use orange, brown and yellow for a Halloween themed cookie mix jar!
TIPS FOR MAKING CHRISTMAS COOKIE MIX IN A JAR
- It’s a great idea to print out a recipe card that you can attach to the cookie mix jar together with a gift tag so that the recipient of this cute homemade gift knows exactly what additional ingredients they need to add to the dry mix as well as the steps to bake a batch of Christmas cookies from this jar mix.
- While my snickerdoodle cookie base for the jar calls for melted butter, if you’ve opted to vary your cookie base to a sugar cookie or something else, then I recommend that you use softened (not melted) butter instead.
- Go ahead and decorate your cookie mix jar however you like. I’ve added decorative ribbon and a tag but you can go beyond that and place a fabric finish over the top of the lid as just one idea. Make it your own to showcase your own style and creativity!
