Crockpot Grape Jelly Meatballs

Who knew this sweet sandwich spread was also great for meatballs? Well, folks, I’m about to let you in on a secret. That stuff you think of as a sandwich filling can actually be the key to fabulous BBQ meatballs.

The sweet fruitiness of the grape jelly blends perfectly with the tomato-ey tang of your favorite BBQ sauce, creating a sweet-sour-spicy fusion that takes plain old frozen meatballs to a whole new plane of deliciousness.

What BBQ sauce do you recommend?

Well, I always say you can’t go wrong with Sweet Baby Ray’s. I like the original version, a classic tomato-based sauce that will blend beautifully with the grape jelly.

Can you make this recipe with vegetarian meatballs?

es! A non-meat-ball like Trader Joes Meatless Meatballs or Gardein Meatless Meatballs works perfectly in this dish. With the yummy grape-BBQ sauce all over them, you can hardly tell the difference.

Do you consider this an appetizer or a main dish?

Either one! You can serve them up as a party appetizer to eat with toothpicks, or dish them out over rice with a sprinkling of green onions for a family dinner. Round out the meal with a simple dish of steamed veggies, or go for something fancier like my Smothered Bacon Green Bean Casserole.

I have made this recipe for years! SO good. I just buy Trader Joe party meatballs and then I combine equal amounts of Heinz Chili sauce and grape jelly.

I’ve been making this for years. When I first started making them I made my own meatballs. 2/3 beef and 1/3 pork but then I discovered the frozen ones. Be sure to use the plain ones. The Italian flavored ones don’t work.
