Homemade Slow Cooker Dog Food
Want to spoil your dog with a nutritious, homemade meal that’s as tasty as it is healthy? Our simple Homemade Slow Cooker Dog Food recipe is packed with real ingredients like ground beef, liver, sweet potatoes, fresh veggies, and a touch of turmeric for added benefits.
It’s easy to make and loaded with natural goodness that your dog will love. Ditch the store-bought kibble and give your furry friend the wholesome, homemade food they deserve—because they’re worth it! Make sure to check with your vet before changing your dog’s diet.
It can be, but it depends on the recipe and your dog’s needs. Homemade dog food allows you to control the quality of ingredients and avoid additives, but it’s important to ensure the diet is balanced with the proper nutrients. So check with your vet before making your won dog food. I like to use this a meal topper to our vet’s recommended dog food.
Consult your veterinarian or a pet nutritionist to ensure your homemade recipe contains the right balance of protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals. Supplements may be necessary, such as calcium and omega-3 fatty acids.
Some spices and seasonings, such as salt, garlic, onions, and certain herbs, can be harmful to dogs. Stick to dog-safe seasonings like turmeric, rosemary, and small amounts of black pepper.
Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or freeze in portion-sized containers for up to 3 months. Always allow the food to cool completely before freezing or refrigerating.

Portion sizes depend on your dog’s size, weight, age, and activity level. As a general rule, dogs require 2-3% of their body weight in food per day, divided into meals. Consult your vet for specific guidelines.
Start Slowly: Introduce homemade food gradually to avoid upsetting your dog’s stomach. Mix it with their current food and slowly increase the ratio of homemade to commercial food over a week or two.
Use High-Quality Ingredients: Choose fresh, whole foods and avoid processed ingredients. Organic meats and vegetables can help reduce pesticide exposure.
Monitor Your Dog’s Health: Keep an eye on your dog’s weight, coat, energy levels, and digestion. Any noticeable changes (weight gain/loss, dull coat, diarrhea) may indicate that the food isn’t meeting their needs.
Avoid Toxic Foods: Some common human foods like chocolate, onions, garlic, grapes, and macadamia nuts are toxic to dogs. Always research new ingredients before adding them to your dog’s food.
Consult Your Vet Regularly: Even if your dog is thriving on homemade food, regular checkups will help ensure their diet remains balanced as their needs change with age, activity, and health.
