Recipe Notes:

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Don’t worry, I know the sauce will look very watery when letting it simmer but once you add the cornstarch it will thicken right up to give you the perfect orange sauce.

Can I use freshly squeezed orange juice?

Yes, I would say about 2-3 oranges will give you 1⁄2 cup of orange juice.

Can I omit the orange marmalade?

You could but this really brings out the orange flavor and
helps thicken the sauce. If you do decide to omit the orange marmalade, I would add orange zest to the sauce instead of just the topping. Being that orange marmalade has sugar in it itself I would also then bump up the brown sugar to 3⁄4 cup instead of 1⁄2 cup if you are looking for a sweet sauce.

Can I use fresh ginger root and fresh garlic?

Absolutely! I love the paste since it takes less time and its ready to go when I need minced garlic or ginger.

This was really good! A great change of pace for weekday lunch prep. Chicken by itself was on the saltier side, and I was a little worried, but when sauce was finished, it balanced it out with sweet and slightly peppery flavor. Next time I would probably double sauce to have extra to drench rice in.
