The Best Crockpot BBQ Chicken
This is going to be the easiest Crockpot BBQ chicken you have ever made. I’m not joking… this really is going to be the easiest BBQ chicken you have ever made. Since I first tested this recipe, it has made it’s way into our meal rotation almost weekly. It is just that good!
Now, don’t get me wrong…nothing beats BBQ chicken straight off the grill. BUT, the flavors of this recipe can’t be beat and you don’t have to sweat over a hot grill.
Give it a try next week and I bet you will be converted to the crockpot-side 🙂
I used a 6qt slow cooker for this recipe. You could certainly use a smaller cooker if preferred, though I would advise against using a larger one. It’s important to note that some slow cookers require a minimum fill level to prevent damage, so be sure to consult your owner’s manual beforehand.
Our go-to is Sweet Baby Rays. But any of your favorite bbq sauces will work!
Some of our favorites are mac and cheese, potato salad, pasta salad, or cowboy caviar.
The Best Crockpot BBQ Chicken
- Season chicken breast lightly (a small pinch per breast) with some sea salt and place in your crockpot.

- In a mixing bowl combine BBQ sauce, Italian dressing, brown sugar and Worcestershire sauce. Stir until well combined.

- Pour over chicken, cover and cook on HIGH for 3-4 hours.

- Once time is up, you can serve the breast whole, or shred with 2 forks. If shredding, recover and let cook in sauce for about 10-15 more minutes to soak up all that delish flavor.


Serve on buns, over rice, in wraps, on a salad or eat a plateful as is! Our favorite way is on fresh rolls, topped with coleslaw.

I tried this Sunday & the taste came out bland for some reason. I used bbq sauce to dip it in after it finished cooking for some flavor. I’m new to a crock pot & had great success with a spiral ham for Christmas dinner. But this was disappointing.
So sorry that it was too bland for you Tom.
I love crockpot recipes because dinner is already made when we all get home. But my problem is, I’m not home within the 7 or 8 hours it’s cooked on low (frozen). With a commute, and 9 hour working days, we’re gone from the house for 10 hours at a time. I do have a programmable crock pot that switches to warm when the cooking time is over. Will this setting dry the chicken out if it’s on “warm” for 2 hours?
OMG, I so can’t cook, but this came out delicious. My 2.5 year who doesn’t eat a lot of meat just asked for seconds. And I love that it’s not dry like a lot of recipes with boneless skinless chicken breasts. Yum!
Only wish this was an 8 hour recipe so I could cook it on work days.
I noticed that a couple people mentioned that they did not have a slow cooker, but would like to try this recipe. Simply cook in a baking dish, covered with foil in your oven @ 375 degrees for 2 to 2 1/2 hours to get the desired effect. After cooking, shred and add additional sauce if desired. If additional sauce is added, cook for 10 more minutes, uncovered.
I just made this….the family love it. Great recipe and super easy.
