Now, don’t get me wrong…nothing beats BBQ chicken straight off the grill. BUT, the flavors of this recipe can’t be beat and you don’t have to sweat over a hot grill.

Give it a try next week and I bet you will be converted to the crockpot-side 🙂

What size slow cooker should I use?

I used a 6qt slow cooker for this recipe. You could certainly use a smaller cooker if preferred, though I would advise against using a larger one. It’s important to note that some slow cookers require a minimum fill level to prevent damage, so be sure to consult your owner’s manual beforehand.

What kind of BBQ sauce should I use?

Our go-to is Sweet Baby Rays. But any of your favorite bbq sauces will work!

What should I serve as a side with this Slow Cooker BBQ Chicken Recipe?

Some of our favorites are mac and cheese, potato salad, pasta salad, or cowboy caviar.

  1. This really is the Best Crock Pot BBQ Chicken! Made it tonight for the first time and everyone loved it! Followed directions exactly except used regular italian dressing instead of zesty. Turned out great! Shredded and served on burger buns. Will definitely be trying some of your other recipes. Thank you for sharing!

i used this recipe and cooked on low as i spent the day cleaning the house.

when it came time to shred the chicken I was thinking, “oh i messed up..” because i used chicken thighs rather than the breast, and the sauce was super liquidy.

Well, as I was shredding it i tasted it a bit and the taste itself was absolutely amazing. Once the meat was shredded and the sauce cooked in a bit more, it was the perfect consistency. This recipe was super easy and tasted absolutely amazing. I definitely recommend it 🙂

  5. Yummy! Making this tomorrow. But will this recipe work in a 8 qt crockpot? Last time I made barbecue chicken, it burned and charred horribly because of how shallow my crockpot is. But I REALLY want to make this! Also, how many breasts is 2 pounds?

    1. WOW that is a big crockpot! I would suggest maybe doubling the recipe and just freeze any leftovers for later. I am also afraid that the recipe might burn in such a huge crock. Chicken breast really do vary with size. Most packages of chicken will say how many pounds are in the pack you buy. But on average, most chicken breasts are 5-6 oz. I hope that helps 🙂

    2. Thanks for the quick reply Corey! I could be wrong about the size..my crockpot looks alot like yours in shape and Appearence. IT’s a Hamilton Beach crockpot. If it is too Big though, how would I make this in the oven?
