Now, don’t get me wrong…nothing beats BBQ chicken straight off the grill. BUT, the flavors of this recipe can’t be beat and you don’t have to sweat over a hot grill.

Give it a try next week and I bet you will be converted to the crockpot-side 🙂

What size slow cooker should I use?

I used a 6qt slow cooker for this recipe. You could certainly use a smaller cooker if preferred, though I would advise against using a larger one. It’s important to note that some slow cookers require a minimum fill level to prevent damage, so be sure to consult your owner’s manual beforehand.

What kind of BBQ sauce should I use?

Our go-to is Sweet Baby Rays. But any of your favorite bbq sauces will work!

What should I serve as a side with this Slow Cooker BBQ Chicken Recipe?

Serve on buns, over rice, in wraps, on a salad or eat a plateful as is!  Our favorite way is on fresh rolls, topped with coleslaw.

I’m making this with chicken breast tenderloins. Should I cook it differently since they aren’t full breasts? I made chicken with tenderloins a few weeks ago and turned out dry like I over cooked them 🙁

I made this awhile back and have been making it ever since. My husband loves it! He said if I made this 3 night’s a week he’d be happy with it ! LOL … I’ve used several different kinds of bbq sauce and it always always turns out delicious, can’t go wrong with whatever brand you use 😉

I never leave comments on recipe reviews. But I had to leave one for this! I was a little worried because everything on Pinterest these days claims to be “the best” but this is the best and easiest shredded BBQ recipe I’ve come across. I was a little worried after th the timer went off and I realized there was a bunch of sauce. I thought it wasn’t going to be watery but once I shredded it there was the perfect amount of sauce left! My husband is a bit picky with his food and he LOVES it!

    1. So happy your picky husband loved it 🙂 Yay!

Loved this recipe! The epitome of set it and forget it and delicious. Made it for a group meal and had multiple people asking for the recipe just based on smelling the final product. I went with recipe as is, although was on the “over side” of the sauce ingredients, since I had about 2.2 lbs of chicken. This led to a little extra sauce, but as I left the crock pot warming after starting to serve the meal, it soaked up nicely. Next time I make this I would double it, would be great to have extras in the fridge. I did shorten up a little on the sugar, just didn’t top off the 1/4 cup. Found it definitely to NOT be too sweet, even with using Sweet Baby Ray’s as the BBQ sauce. Can’t recommend this one enough, GREAT recipe.

    1. Thank you so much Erin!
