Cooking to impress…the easy way.

Sure, I like my recipes to be elegant, but when you’re a busy mom, fast and easy is even more important.
Fortunately, in this case, you get all three. Because thisEasy Crockpot Beef Tips With Gravy recipe is a super easy, hearty meal that practically makes itself—but also comes out impressive enough to serve to company. And all you need are a handful of ingredients to make it!
It takes about ten minutes to toss everything into the crock at the start of the day (except the cornstarch). If you’ve got the beef and onion already cut up, then it only takes three minutes. Then it just cooks all by itself for seven hours, and at dinnertime, all you have to do is stir in your cornstarch with a bit of water to thicken up the gravy.
Serve this hot over egg noodles or mashed potatoes, and you’ll have a meal your family and friends will be gushing over!
Easy Crockpot Beef Tips with Gravy
Ingredients:
2 lbs beef stew meat
1 (10.75oz) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
1 (.88 oz) packet brown gravy mix – some packets range to 1 oz, and that’s still ok to use
1 cup beef broth
1 small onion, diced ( about 1/3 cup)
1-2 cloves of garlic minced
1 Tablespoon cornstarch, mixed with 1 Tablespoon water (you can also use 2TB of flour with 1/4 cup water)
Optional: Egg noodles or mashed potatoes, prepared.
Directions:
- In a medium bowl, combine cream of mushroom soup, gravy mix, beef broth, onion and garlic. Whisk together. It’s ok if it’s a little lumpy, while it’s cooking in the slow cooker, the lumps will mix in.
- Place your stew meat into a 4 quart crockpot. Pour gravy mixture over beef and gently stir to combine.Cook covered on LOW for 7 hours. Once done cooking, remove beef with a slotted spoon and set aside. Stir in cornstarch/water mixture (this will thicken up the gravy.) Replace beef back into crockpot and continue cooking for 5 more minutes while gravy thickens.
- Serve over egg noodles

OR mashed potatoes!!

Liz says
Nice and easy. Thank you Corey. Have a great day and week.
Deb says
Do you add water to the soup
JZ says
The mushroom soup? No. You just open the can and put it in.
Michelle says
I can’t wait to make this. My family is going to love it. Thanks
Heather says
This looks amazing! I want to cut this recipe to 1 lb. of meat, its just me and my husband, but I was wondering would there be too much liquid if I keep everything else the same? Some of the ingredients are harder to cut in half (like gravy packet and soup) or would you recommend just cutting the whole recipe in half to make sure the proportions are correct? Thanks!
Corey says
There will be a lot of liquid Heather, but I don’t think that should affect the meat all that much. But trust me, you will love this, and if you make the full recipe, you can just have dinner for the next day. It also freezes well too. I hope that helps
Jazzy Ann says
A whisk would break it up better.
Jennifer says
If we are in a crunch and only have around 4 hours to cook do you think I could do this recipe on high? Would it make the meat tough in this recipe?
Corey says
Jennifer, I think that should be ok. I would brown the meat first and then put it in if you are only going to be cooking it for 4 hours on HIGH.
Sammy says
Do you think it would be okay to not brown the meat first if cooking on high for four hours? I’m in a tome crunch myself a curious if it will ruin my meat
Corey says
I think that would work out ok Sammy. I have only made this recipe as written so, so I can’t say for sure.
April says
I have cooked it on 4 hours and the meat was perfect!
Gigi says
Just made this tonight ! I did brown the meat a little, the center was still reddish… but used the crock pot on high for 4 hours…. it was so easy and really good! I served over rice but since it’s just me and my husband, also bought noodles for left overs one day next week !!
Joanne says
I have made this recipe on high for four hrs and it is delucious. I do take the time to season , dust with flour and brown the meat first! Great receipe!! Thanks for sharing!
Donna says
Thanks for the recipes! Got apple Pie Smoothie and Crockpot Beef tips! That just may be dinner tomorrow evening!!!
Eileen says
Looks yum….all ready to give it a go. What size chunks do you recommend I cut the meat into? 🙂
Tera says
How many teaspoons/tablespoons is some minced garlic? Also, what can I use instead of a condensed cream of mushroom?
Pat says
This is for dinner tonight! I was pressed for time so it’s been on high for 4 hours and I’ll be checking it a few times to make sure it’s done. My house smells AWESOME!
yvonne says
Great recipe making for a 3rd time. I add in red wine but other than that i make it the same. Thanks
Kelly says
Would it be possible to start with frozen stewing beef? If so, what would the cooking time be?
Looks so good, thanks!
Elizabeth says
Made this tonight and the family enjoyed it so much! I added carrots, a second can of cream of mushroom and a packet of onion soup mix along with 1/2 cup more of beef broth. Served it over egg noodles. Added to family favorite!
maggie says
How much gravy was made using 1 Cana mushroom soup and 2packets gravy for 3 pounds stew meet?
Michael says
With the gravy mix packet-do you prepare that prior making actual gravy or just pour the packet in dry with the soup/etc
Corey says
You just pour the packet in dry 🙂 I hope you enjoy Michael!
Nancy Drummond says
I made this , and my husband loved it – I served it over home made egg noodles and it was perfect – it will be put in my regular recipe rotation.
I love slow cooker recipes that are like grandma’s old recipes, without the fuss – and this is one of those – plus it doesn’t require expensive cuts of beef to be good
Aly says
This was fantastic! My whole family loved it! I even forgot to do the last step, but served over mashed potatoes it was perfect. Will definitely add it to our meal plan rotation.
Krystal says
Beef tips and gravy has been a favorite of myself and my husband for almost 20 years now…. it’s more common to serve over rice where we live- I guess it’s a southern thing…great with yeast rolls to sob up the extra gravy…..
Vickie says
Making this for dinner tonight, added Worcestershire & sour cream, hot sauce and serving it over egg noodles.
Sara says
Can you sub another cream soup for the mushroom one? My family hates mushrooms
Corey says
Yep! You can sub in a cream soup you do like. I would suggest cream of potato or cream of celery 🙂
Carlyn says
So….,I mistakenly put my flour in on the front end….(mixed all ingredients together without thinking)
Do you think I can salvage it be adding another cup of broth to thin it a bit?
Corey says
Yes, I think that should work Carlyn 🙂
Britney says
Would it work if I used pre made gravy out of a jar? That’s all I have in my cabinets lol.
Corey says
Britney, I have never used jared gravy for this. Sorry I can’t be much help with that.
haley b. says
This is listed under a Weight Watchers recipe, but it doesn’t have the points value. Any clue what they might be?
Lynne Boswell says
I plugged it into WW on the Blue plan and it is 13 points for 1 serving, if you think this will feed four people. Definitely NOT WW friendly, although I’m sure it is delicious. I wish I would have plugged in the points before I started my crock pot but oh well.
LuAnn says
I plugged it in the calculator for a blue and the recipe states that serves six and it turned out to be six points
Larry says
I have used jar gravy…..good to go
Iris says
What slices can I use to give it a more flavorful taste.
Nicole says
This is absolutely delicious. Wow – and super easy!
Darrell Phillips says
I’m not going to remove e the meat before I put the corn starch in will th as t mess me up?
Corey says
No that should be fine.
Darrell Phillips says
I’m going to add this to my cookbook. It was great. Thanks Darrell
Wendy says
This sounds wonderful! I forgot to lay out any meat last night, and I am wondering about using frozen beef tips? Do you think I would need to change anything else in the recipe if I do it that way?
Corey says
You might need to increase the cooking time.
Kyra says
I only had a pound of meat but otherwise made the whole recipe…. With powdered onion and garlic. It was fantastic over rice. Thank you
Michelle says
I made this tonight. Used beef chuck top blade- something like that. The meat just fell apart- in a good way. Family loved it! Pintrest recipes are hit or miss. This one is my favorite
Peaches says
If you were to add mushrooms, when would you add?
Corey says
I would add them in at the beginning.
Pat says
Will the mushrooms add to the amount of liquid? If so, how do you correct for that?
Matthew says
Can I still cook this in a 6 quart crockpot?
Corey says
Yes you can Matthew. Just make sure to check on it towards the end of cooking. As it might finish quicker in the larger crockpot.
Erica says
I made this tonight and it was great, thank you.
Elizabeth says
To shorten cook time how long on can I cook this on high…..
rocki says
Cant wait to try this, I’ve made tips of beef before but never in the crock…I bet its much more tender..ill use rice instead though.
Amber says
Making this for the second time. Total hit with the kids. I add peas at the end of cooking. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful, easy dish!
Corey says
Love it! Thanks for sharing Amber 😉
Jamie says
Hi, I’m in the middle of a kitchen remodel and don’t have anything to cook with besides my crockpot. Would there be a way to add the noodles to it to get them cooked as well? Possibly a half hour before done, etc? Thanks so much!
Patty says
I’ve added egg noodles to crockpot recipes and they’ve turned out great. I do recommend the “No Yolk” for some reason the seam to do better.
Mara says
I often add egg noodles to my crockpot recipes. I do it about 30- 45 minutes before the meal is done depending on whether or not I’m cooking on low or high and how much rom there is in the crock pot. The noodles all have to be covered and I Ike to very quickly open, stir and close back up about half way through.
Kam Wortham says
Making this tonight… Will I need to add anything else to make sure the meat is nice and tender?
Corey says
I have never had a problem Kam. Meat is always tender 🙂
Taylor says
Tonight will be my second time cooking this. The first time it was a big hit and I’m expecting the same ooohhs and ahhhs that I got before! I cook mine on high for 4 hours but brown my meat before hand- so for those asking if you can cook this on high, YES!
Will be serving it with mashed potatoes and country bacon green beans.
Great hit! Thanks!
jan says
OK—I do not own a crock pot—how can I make this wonderful recipe?
jan says
Hi—I don’t have a Crockpot—so can I make this on top of the stove instead?—Sounds great and I would love to make it but not sure how long to cook it….Thanks.
dolores maister says
can I do this recipe without the cream of mushroom soup. How would I adjust for leaving that out?
Corey says
I have only made the recipe as written, so I cannot say for sure.
Kat says
I use cream of potato soup instead since I dislike mushrooms. Turns out WONDERFULLY. (I also add in some extra seasoning to the meat, and go for a low sodium beef broth to balance that out). I’m trying something new with the recipie today with adding in two chopped up potatos (and a full can of the broth), so I can’t wait to see what happens. ^_^
Mara says
Cream of bacon is really good! I mean, beef and bacon? Yummm!
Andrea says
i want to make this tomorrow but won’t have time to go to the store… only thing I don’t have is the gravy mix… anyone know a good substitute?
Jon Michael says
Scrumptious! And so easy, thank you.
Cheryl says
Does it freeze well if I make it ahead?
Ashley says
It was absolutely delish! I used garlic powder, but otherwise followed the recipe. I will DEFINITELY be making this again.
Kyleigh says
I accidentally read the instructions wrong and put the cornstarch in with the gravy mix.. hope it still cooks okay.
Patty says
I love this recipe!! I’ve made it so many times and love how tender the meat turns out. I’ve tried a couple of suggestions others have posted and they turned out good too. I’m fixing some meals for my daughter to help while she’s recovering from a C-Section she just had. I’ve got several meals ready but I’m making this again tonight for us and wanted to ask if anyone has frozen if after? If so did you let thaw and reheat on the stove or after thawing did you put it in crockpot on low or warm for awhile? Also did you need to add anything to make it thicker or thinner after being frozen? I’d love to get some suggestions on this. Thanks for the great recipes!!
Alice says
If I double the meat, do I double ALL the ingredients? Making today! Please help me out!
Corey says
Yes, if you double the meat, double the entire recipe.
Marcia says
Can I add rice to this, would I need more broth if I could? Fixing to make this, looks so delicious!
Mary says
I’m looking forward to making this. Can I use cream of chicken soup instead of cream of mushroom soup?
Corey says
Sure, I think that would work out fine Mary
Gracie Garcia says
Would it still taste the same with the cream of chicken soup.
Gracie says
I wanted to know if the chicken soup turned out good instead of the mushroom soup. Thanks
Tina Perry says
Another easy recipe that my kids like! Thank you!
Laura Lee says
Does anyone know exactly what the serving size is? I realize it’s 1/6 of the recipe, but I was hoping to get the right portion so I can count my calories. A cup…cup and a half? Thanks!
Dara says
Made this for dinner after my husband was bored of my usual stew. He went crazy over it and told me this is the only stew he wants going forward!
I didn’t have any gravy packets on hand so I went ahead and made my own according to another recipe online. Awesome recipe definately a staple in the house now!
Joanne says
Yummy. I used cream of chicken as we don’t like mushrooms.
Eric Imfeld says
