Now, don’t get me wrong…nothing beats BBQ chicken straight off the grill. BUT, the flavors of this recipe can’t be beat and you don’t have to sweat over a hot grill.

Give it a try next week and I bet you will be converted to the crockpot-side 🙂

What size slow cooker should I use?

I used a 6qt slow cooker for this recipe. You could certainly use a smaller cooker if preferred, though I would advise against using a larger one. It’s important to note that some slow cookers require a minimum fill level to prevent damage, so be sure to consult your owner’s manual beforehand.

What kind of BBQ sauce should I use?

Our go-to is Sweet Baby Rays. But any of your favorite bbq sauces will work!

What should I serve as a side with this Slow Cooker BBQ Chicken Recipe?

Some of our favorites are mac and cheese, potato salad, pasta salad, or cowboy caviar.

FYI: I made this a few weeks back but had no Italian dressing. I used Greek dressing instead and it came out fabulous.!

I have done this recipe exactly as written, AND have found myself using it as a base when I dont have everything I need. It always works great! I didnt have italian dressing 3 different times and did substitutions that worked really well. I used apple cider vinegar, avacado oil, basil, 1/4 tsp of liquid smoke, garlic powder and some diced onion last night in the place of the dressing and WOW! I added bell peppers once and that was yummy. I have done on high for 3-4 hrs and low for 5-6hrs. Both worked. A solid recipe as is OR a solid base for experiments. It has become a “go to” recipe. Thank you!

I made this for my son’s graduation party. I quadrupled the recipe and made it a couple of days in advance. Graduation day came, put it in the crock pot on low for 3 hours to reheat and it was FANTASTIC. I am sort of an idiot when it comes to fork shredding, so I just got in there with my (clean!) hands and shredded it that way. I got brioche buns from Costco and made a creamy coleslaw to put on top. My entire family just loved it. Just a great recipe and a wonderful thing make for a group. Thank you! Well done!

Can this be prepared before hand as a freezer meal? I have a 3yr old and a 1yr old with a deployed husband and someday’s its easier for me to just take from the freezer and put straight in the crockpot.
