The Best Crockpot Beef Stew

Beef stew has to be one of my ultimate comfort foods, especially during the winter months. And what goes better with Sunday football than a big ole’ bowl of beef stew!

Now, this isn’t any old stew. This has been proclaimed as The Best Crockpot Beef Stew by my friends and family. So add this recipe to your menu next week and let the compliments roll in.

The Best Crockpot Beef Stew 

  • 2 pounds beef stew meat, (cut into bite-sized pieces)
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 celery ribs, sliced
  • 2-3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 6 oz can tomato paste
  • 32 oz beef broth
  • 2 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cups baby carrots carrots
  • 4-5 small red potatoes, cut into bite-sized pieces (about 3 cups)
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 cups frozen peas
  • 1 cup frozen corn
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup water
  1. Combine beef, celery, carrots, red onion, potatoes, salt,  pepper, garlic, parsley, oregano, Worcestershire sauce, beef broth, and tomato paste in the crock pot. I used a 6 qt crockpot for this stew.  Cook on LOW for 10 hours or on HIGH for 6-7 hours.
  2. About 30 minutes before serving, mix the flour and the water together in a small dish and pour into the crockpot. Mix until well combined. This will add a nice thickness to the stew. Next add in your frozen peas and corn. Continue cooking covered for 30 minutes.

    I have this recipe pinned to my pinterest and have made it about 4x already and I am going to make it again tonite! I have a 6quart crockpot and I find that if cooking on low it does NOT need 10 hours in my crockpot(61/2-8 on low) otherwise the potatoes and carrots turn to mush and celery turns invisible. I add a bay leaf and a lil brown sugar and I believe last time I tried a McCormick beef stew packet for xtra kick in flavor. If you use the packet you do not need to use the salt and pepper and oregeno. I still put in the worcestire sauce though. I love beef stew and this recipe is a great recipe to start with and so easy to make. I just started cooking like 8 months ago and started with crockpot recipes. Beef stew was my first attempt at crocking. I never tire of it!!! Great job and thanks for the recipe!

    I made an adapted version of this but it was still amazing! The biggest difference is that I left out the can of tomato paste – not because I wanted to but because I thought I had it and then didn’t and had already added everything to the pot! It still came out really, really good, though I’m sure the tomato paste would have made it richer – definitely will try it with it next time. I also didn’t have dried parsley and added dried thyme instead, which was great, and used precut sliced carrots which were also really good!

    I have made this recipe a few times and have loved it. I am short on time and was hoping to try making this on the stove instead. How long do you think it needs to cook for and at what heat? Would I have to brown the meat first?

  4. this recipe is awesome, the only thing i did differently was instead of the 32oz beef broth, i threw in a can of guinness and equal amount the beef broth, no flour in the end.

    super delish!

  5. Instead of a roux or flour/water mix, I usually finely grate a potato or 2 and add to the stew to thicken it up.
