This is going to be the easiest BBQ chicken you have ever made.
This is going to be the easiest Crockpot BBQ chicken you have ever made.
I’m not joking… this really is going to be the easiest BBQ chicken you have ever made. Since I first tested this recipe, it has made it’s way into our meal rotation almost weekly. It is just that good!
Now, don’t get me wrong…nothing beats BBQ chicken straight off the grill. BUT, the flavors of this recipe can’t be beat and you don’t have to sweat over a hot grill.
Give it a try next week and I bet you will be converted to the crockpot-side 🙂
The Best Crockpot BBQ Chicken
Directions:
Printable ingredients list and directions at bottom of the page.
- Season chicken breast lightly (a small pinch per breast) with some sea salt and place in your crockpot.
- In a mixing bowl combine BBQ sauce, Italian dressing, brown sugar and Worcestershire sauce. Stir until well combined.
- Pour over chicken, cover and cook on HIGH for 3-4 hours.
- Once time is up, you can serve the breast whole, or shred with 2 forks. If shredding, recover and let cook in sauce for about 10-15 more minutes to soak up all that delish flavor.
Serve on buns, over rice, in wraps, on a salad or eat a plateful as is! Our favorite way is on fresh rolls, topped with coleslaw.

Love this Corey! Looks delicious!
http://youtube.com/addalittlefood
JR says
Very delicious! I used chicken thighs instead (some with skin some skinless) about 3.5lbs. Turned out perfect. Definitely making again! I cooked on high 1hr, then on low for 4hrs. Chicken turned out very tender falling off the one. It was perfect over rice!
Teri says
What bottled barbecue sauce did you use?
Patricia says
I always use Sweet Baby Ray’s. I think it is the best.
I used to make my own. No more!
Elizabeth says
This recipe is delicious every time I make it! I follow the recipe. Sometimes forget the salt but don’t miss it and maybe a little less brown sugar. I have used Weber’s sauce and Stubb’s sauce-both great! I also always use Good Seasons Italian dressing.
The whole family loves it!
And so EASY!!
Phyllis says
Thank you so m <ch for sharing. Father's Day has a new "favorite.
Retha L Fitch says
I use Stubbs. No high froutose sugar and has great flavor. Cut the time after cutting breasts in half. Put on low and hour in.
Dawn says
What is the cook time with frozen chicken breast
Lamia says
Did you mean italian dressing powder or in a bottle?
Corey says
I used dressing from the bottle.
Michael says
Sweet Baby Ray’s first ingredient is high fructose corn syrup. Should pick one with more natural ingredients like Rib Rack.
Tina says
This is my go to bbq recipe! Not only is it easy, it’s really good. I use Stubbs spicy for an added kick.
Rachel R says
Do you think I can get away with not putting Brown Sugar??
Carly says
Yes! Most bbq sauce have sugar in them anyway. I cut the sugar in half and the recipe tasted so great!
Elizabeth says
I used Burmans Texas from Aldi, they have Texas, Memphis, Kansas City, and Carolina sauces. Taste great and no high fructose corn syrup.
Great recipe!
Pinot says
I also used the Burmans BBQ Sauce, but the Kansas city. I added 4 sliced fresh jalapeños to the mix and some extra garlic powder. DELISH! Thanks!
Eunice says
Is it ok if I only have a pound and a half of chicken ?
Sam G says
I love Sweet baby Ray’s.
Did you still add
¼ cup Italian dressing
¼ cup brown sugar
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
to the BBQ?
Maura says
That’s what I use every time including all the other ingredients.
Julie McRay says
How can I get more of the” smokey” taste? I made this as directed and yummm! But I like a bit more smokey taste. Other then that my picky eater even loved it kept going back and goin back. He’s 22yrs. old!! ha, ha, ha! Overall we loved it. I’ll make it again. soon!
Corey says
Maybe try adding in some liquid smoke?
Denise says
Where is the coleslaw recipe? I’ve found it before but can’t now
Corey says
Here you go Denise! https://www.familyfreshmeals.com/2016/05/classic-creamy-coleslaw.html
Melissa says
I love this recipe in the crock pot but am out of time and I’m wondering if you’ve ever done it in the instant pot? If so, how long should I cook it for?
Kathryn says
I tried it in my instant pot and it turned out great! I used 4 chicken breasts, cooked it on high for 18 min then did a quick release.
Liz says
What setting did you use for the instant pot?
Alisha says
If you were to double the recipe but use frozen chicken. How long would u suggest to cook it?
Kiara says
Cooked this last night for my family and it was AMAZING! They LOVED it!!! Prepared exactly how it said! The best! Thank you!!
Melissa says
Is it Italian salad dressing??
Corey says
Yes 🙂
Ssmith says
Has anybody tried making this Whole30 compliant😬? Was thinking Coconut aminos instead of Worcestershire, no sugar, vinegar/olive oil/Italian seasoning instead of dressing and compliant BBQ sauce.
Jessica says
Dry Italian dressing I believe…??
Corey says
No, you want to use the bottled “wet” dressing
Maey says
I help cook for the homeless and would like any suggestions on how to do this recipe for 40 people. We cook food at home and transport to location to serve. We do have a kitchen to use. Thanks.
Debbie Orr says
We doubled the recipe for a housewarming party with about 45 attending. With brisket and sausage as other meats, we had leftovers. Made beforehand (previous day), then popped in crock pot that morning to rewarm and serve. Very easy and you can control the overall taste by the flavor of Bar-B-Q sauce you use. I like Stubbs sugar free. My husband likes
Jessica says
Hi I made this tonight and loved it!
I’m going to make it for a party. 40 guests.
If I double the recipe with 5lbs of chicken. Do I double the cooking time? Or still cook 5lbs on high for 3-4hrs?
Also do I double all ingredients?
Do you think 5lbs is enough for 40 people ?
Lastly, if I cook night before and then rewarm next day. I’m assuming I cook then put in fridge keeping it in the crockpot bowl. Then how to I recook? Just warm in crockpot for how long till it’s ready to serve?
Sorry I’m new to this and don’t want to disappoint all the mouths I’m feeding.
Jess
Nichole says
Hi Debbie! Do you recall when you doubled the recipe, did you cook it for longer? If so, how much longer?
Elizabeth Behringer says
The recipe serving size is 4-6 people, I would take into consideration that those your feeding deserve lots of food so I’d do the math with it being 4 that it feeds! You would just multiply the recipe by 10! 20lbs of chicken .. etc!
Jessica says
Could you marinate these in the morning before putting in the Crock-Pot?
amy says
Honestly, I just put in about two pounds of chicken breasts, pour on the rest of the ingredients one at a time, and cook it like that. I find that it all mixes together fine while it’s cooking. I cook it on high 4 hours (shredding between hours 3 and 4) or on low for 7.5-8 hours while I’m at work and shred it and put it back in for about 30 minutes so it can soak up the juices. My crock pot switches to warm after a set time.
Kat says
Oh good to know about the low 7-8 hours cuz I will be gone all and wondered if it would still be just as good!!! Thank you! Stay tuned 🙂
Eva says
Can you use light Cesar dressing if you don’t have Italian?
Sara says
No…they aren’t even remotely the same thing.
Michelle says
You could but it will change the taste of the finished dish.
Alex says
My mom and I made this for a small family gathering and we got rave reviews! We used a combination of chicken breast and some thighs and the chicken came out moist and smthe sauce was super yummy. We served them on buns with coleslaw as well. Will he making again for sure!
Erika says
If I triple the recipe should I extend the cooking time as well?
Michele says
I did a mixture of breast & thighs as that’s what had on hand. Made some additions – placed a single layer of sliced onion rings on the bottom of crockpot, then sprinkled w/ paprika & Italian session + add bit of water to allow for steaming. Added the chicken – sprinkled dry Italian dressing on both sides. I added Dijon mustard to the bbq sauce ingredients. Cooked on high for 4 hours – chicken was very tender. Served as sliders adding mayo to the buns & topping with shredded cabbage. Family approved ??. Will def make again – thanks!
Lexi says
This was delicious. Thank you for an easy recipe 🙂 it will definitely be a staple for my family!
DF says
Hello,
If I double the recipe, how long do you recommend for the cooking time? Double? 8 hours on low?
Corey says
No, you shouldn’t need to double the time. Maybe just add on an extra hour or so. I hope that helps!
Christine H says
In my house we absolutely love this recipe. I am 7 months pregnant and am working on some freezer meals. Has anyone ever stored this in the freezer after shredding? Thanks in advance!!!
Julie says
I know this is late as a reply but I freeze it in smaller portions to have later. I just let it defrost in the fridge before reheating.
Beth says
I love this recipe. I’m going to make it for a family gathering of about 35 people and wondered if I could do ahead and freeze. I see the answer in someone else’s reply. Thank you.
Karen Winter says
I found Sweet Baby Ray’s that is sugar free. I I didn’t care for the original just too sweet.
Michelle says
Yes, I freeze it in freezer bags in the portions I’ll need later. Then I just reheat on the stove when needed.
Lessa Moutz says
This is delicious. We ate it over scoops as nachos. Sooo good. I’m doubling it tonight for dinner so we can leftovers.
Corey says
BBQ chicken nachos are the best! YUM!!!
LauraB says
We love to cook on the grill but with all the rainy days we have had this summer, that isn’t always possible…. I will definitely be trying this recipe. It looks great!
chantel says
She probably used sweet baby rays they are awesome!
Gina says
I have bad news for you “sweet baby ray” lovers. It’s all High Fructose Corn Syrup! No.1 ingredient. There’s a lot of good BBQ sauces out there, I would’nt use this.
Lacey Taylor says
Doesn’t change that fact that it tastes amazing!
Bev says
Still gonna put it on everything I bar b que!
TOD FAWCETT says
WHAT R BABY RAYS – SORRY NEW TO COOKING- THANKS FOR EVERY ONES HELP IN STAYING HEALTHY. DO I NEED THAT MUCH SUGAR , TO MAKE IT TASTE THAT WAY- SOUNDS LIKE A SPLURGE SAT. RECIPE
Corey says
It’s just a brand of BBQ sauce. You can use any BBQ sauce if you cannot find Baby Rays 🙂
Lauren says
Excellent bbq chicken recipe!! In a pinch, how long and what temp in the oven (glass dish)?
Corey says
Lauren, I haven’t made this in the oven yet. Can anyone else help?
K Lemerond says
I make bbq chicken in the oven sometimes. I cook for an hour at 350. Pour 1/2 cup sherry sprinkle garlic salt and cover with bbq sauce. Cover with foil and bake them. Super quick and easy. Always yummy. If you use thin breasts I would cut down the sherry it’s just for the bottom of the pan not to cover the chicken. I hope that helps.
Kathy schmitz says
Could you use pork butt instead of chicken?
Carol says
Have you ever use this bbq sauce on ribs?
Corey says
No I have not, but that sounds like a yummy idea.
Ann says
Hi: I also love Lick Your Chops BBQ sauce. . When I don’t use sweet baby rays I use this one it is a great option
Ann says
!!! Apologies !!!! I had a huge brain drain the name I intend d to write is “Sticky Fingers”. I am soooooo sorry!!!!!
Laura says
I use Splenda brown sugar and white to cut back – it also doesn’t put me in a sugar coma. Sweet pot pie! Pecan pie….
.. I didn’t add sugar to this bbq tho- one thing about sugar and salt, can’t REMOVE flavor if you add too much- good luck in your cooking adventures!
Cassi says
Is there anyway I can use the original Italian season dressing instead of the zesty Italian?
Laura says
Sure!!! Why not!!! I added diced chunky onions,,, garlic,,, and sweet jalapeño’s diced to sauce! The sweet rolls will calm down the little heat-
Annie says
I looked at the date of your comments, ….. years later, but, I have been using Olive Garden I Italian dressing…. It has been a huge success!!!
Natalie says
Love this recipe. Can this be made up in advance as a freezer meal?
Dalena says
Could you tell us what kind of BBQ sauce you used? That makes a huge difference!
Mariand says
I used open pi Apple whisky. Delicious!!
Yvette says
I’ve made this recipe 3 times now and used 3 different brands of bbq sauce just to play! Delicious every time! Today i used frozen solid breasts…3.5 lb, cooked on high x 4 hours and shredded, they were cooked thru just fine 🙂 thank you for a simple and amazing recipe!
Dalena says
Can you tell us what BBQ sauce you used please?
Corey says
I have actually used a couple different kinds 🙂 I usually use Sweet Baby Rays Original, but have also used Trader Joe’s Brand (that one has a little more spice) and Stubb’s Original. They have all turned out wonderful! I would stick with a sauce you usually use 🙂 I hope that helps!
Dalena says
Thank you!
Julie says
This is an amazing tecipe! My hubby, kids, and any company we hv or go see LOVES this! And it’s so stinkin’ simple! I make a simple angel hair coleslaw and slider rolls and some sort of veggie like corn! Delicious! ! Thank you! ! It’s a keeper!
Kelly eleuterius says
I like the idea of the cole slaw on the sandwhich. Do you coat it with anything?
Corey says
You can add on some extra BBQ sauce if you would like, but I think you will find the chicken is saucy enough on it’s own.
Mary says
I love this recipe. If I want to double or triple the recipe (maybe put 6-8 chicken breasts, do I need to double or triple the ingredients? I’m new to cooking so don’t know what to do!
Barbara Dallas says
What if I have no crock pot would it be just as good if boiled or better baked ???? Please help
amy says
I have made it in the oven before, but it was too dry. Maybe with the addition of ingredients besides barbecue sauce, it would be better in the oven than when I made it. i still suggest using a slow cooker.
Annie says
I also love Sticky Fingers!! Original and Sweet Carolina!!! I think it is wonderful. 😀❤️
Caitlin says
I’ve used Open Pit BBQ Sauce and it is awesome!!
Tracy says
I used Longhorn Barbecue Sauce. This recipe is soooo good! On are regular rotation of meals now! Kids eat it up! Husband had no complaints!
Kim says
I was 1/2 c short on the BBQ sauce (Trader Joe’s Carolina BBQ Sauce – absolutely yummy). I made the recipe “to the directions” regardless, and waited for my hubby to pick up more BBQ sauce at the store for me (not the same brand, mind you – he picked out Kraft I think). When it was time to add more sauce, about 3 1/2 hrs into cooking, and I lifted the lid for the first time – I was panicked. It was VERY watery… but I trusted this blog, and put the remaining 1/2 c of sauce in, decided to “chunk” the chicken (I used 2 very lg chicken breasts and 3 thighs) so stirring in the sauce would be easier. Put the lid on, and checked it an hour later. PERFECTION! No more watery BBQ soup – it was thick and wonderful. 🙂 I shredded the chicken at this point, ate at least 3 or 4 bits to check the taste (the house smelled soooo good) — and was DIVING back in for more. 🙂 Put the lid back on to cook an additional 20 min. While pics of delicious meals are a dime a dozen now on the internet (mostly pinterest), and the reviews are typically written as follows: “wow that looks delicious- can’t wait to try it!” I’m here to tell you — I’ve made this… and it’s DELICIOUS! 🙂
Corey says
I am so happy to hear you loved it Kim! Yes, as soon as you chunk or shred the chicken, it thickens up and becomes amazing 🙂 Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a wonderful review.
paige says
Am going to try this in the next couple of days …(got to get the BBQ sauce!)
Tara says
I used hawaiin [maybe sweet? or tangy?] bbq sauce, it made the shredded chicken even better! just that lil extra taste to it….tho i cheated and used canned shredded chicken….first time with this new one on sale with lemon pepper….and ? something else….man hubby loved the sandwiches! tasted good plain on plate too…
Debbie says
Thanks for the actual review. Yes, most say things like, “looks good”. I appreciate the feedback from someone who’s actually tried it.
Jacklyn Justus says
I agree with you.
Pete says
Hi hi there. When it says use a 1/4 cup exactly what measurements is that. I live in the UK and work on ml,grams etc??
Corey says
1/4 cup equals 59.1470591 mL 🙂 I hope that helps Pete 🙂
Linda says
Can you make this recipe without Italian dressing???
Corey says
I have only made this recipe as written Linda. Sorry.
Annie says
I have been using Olive Garden Italian dressing when I make this. I have found it to be the best of any of the store bought offerings! I hope this helps!!!
Jenni says
I am so glad to hear someone else mention thier distaste for “this looks so good” reviews. that is not helpful at all. Thank you for your actual review!!! It is extremely helpful.
Hannah says
I am so glad you posted this! Like you said, lots of comments are just people saying they have try it, and not actually comments about their experience. After reading more reviews I am definitely making this for the guys at my work next week, they love BBQ and since this is so easy I am actually excited to try it! I’m glad you said something about the watery part, if I would have seen that I wouldn’t have known what to do! Thank you! I cant wait to try this!
Shannon says
Haha. That is so annoying and so true. That is not a review. Your review was very helpful. Thank you.
Makenzie says
Making this tonight, my little boy LOVES pulled chicken! With him playing All-Star baseball we never have time to cook a REAL meal, we have been living off freezer food and I just so happened to come across this recipe this morning! We don’t cook the chicken beforehand, correct?
Makenzie says
*Nevermind on the cooking question, keeping the little man entertained inside waiting on his game this evening has made me crazy 😉 and I actually stopped and looked at the chicken picture. Oops!
Corey says
Haha. No worries at all Makenzie 🙂 I get mommy brain ALL the time. hehe. I hope you all enjoy the BBQ Chicken!
mistel says
I only have Zesty Italian in fridge. Does the Italian you use make a difference?
Corey says
Nope! Zesty is actually my favorite one to use!
Lara says
Do you think this sauce would work equally well work pork, for BBQ pork?
Corey says
Yes! I bet it would be equally yummy 🙂
Beryl Smith says
Hi can u tell me what is th Italian dressing is it olive oil?
Corey says
It’s a flavor of salad dressing. It does consist of mostly olive oil, vinegar and Italian seasonings.
shaindee says
would you happen to know the exact amounts i should put in??
Jodie says
Zesty Italian salad dressing is the name of the dressing, just like Ranch or Thousand Island. You would simply add 1/4 cup of it. If you don’t have dressing, you could still make this recipe; just skip the dressing and add water — less salt, anyway!
Blanch Kwasiborski says
I have made this many times. And used many different Italian dressing’s the absolute best one for taste is “Paul Newman’s “ Italian dressing. This recipe also freezes well divided into containers. Love it over a baked potato.
melissa says
Was wondering if the brown sugar made it very sweet or do the other ingredients even it out? My husband doesn’t like very sweet things, such as baked beans.
melissa says
Also wondering if I could cook on low for 7 or 8 hours instead of on high?
Corey says
I would do low for 6-7 hours so the chicken doesn’t dry out 🙂
Sarah says
This was my question – putting food in the crockpot is such a convenience, but cooking for 3-4 hours isn’t so much when you work. Tough to be home at 2 to turn on a crock pot. : ) Thank you so much for the suggestion on the low temp!!
Corey says
Sarah, you could do this on low for 5-6 hours 🙂
RC says
I made this as written except that I had chicken thighs instead of breasts. It was easy and delicious! My husband and even my picky children are it and declared it yummy!! Thank you we will be making this again!
Corey says
I find bbq sauce to be sweet on it’s own…. so yes, this does have a sweet taste to it.
Jay says
Literally just got done making this, taste AMAZING!!! And not at all too sweet! Flavors work great together, will.make again!
Corey says
Glad you loved it Jay 🙂
Kathleen says
WOW!!! This was my very first attempt at cooking with a slow cooker. Your recipe is truly the best!! 🙂 I choose to shred the chicken. … As another reviewer commented it made the kitchen smell incredible!! What a wonderful gift your blog is!! Thank-you for sharing it with all of us.
Corey says
Awesome Kathleen! I am so glad you loved it 🙂 It is one of our favorites!
Amber Douglas says
I would love to make this tonight but was wondering if I could do it with frozen chicken and if so how much longer would the cook time be?
Deanna says
Do you think this would work with pork? Hubby isn’t a fan of chicken and I hate the idea of using ketchup and honey for pulled pork but can’t find a recipe he likes…
Corey says
I think it would work great with pork Deanna!
Patricia says
I have tried it many times with pork and it works just as well. Delicious!
Pamela says
Hey Corey,
Thanks so much for the recipe. Im trying it today. Just one question. I saw some reviews mentioned adding a 1/2cup of the sauce in at the last hour….did i miss this somewhere in the instructions or was that just something they did? working all day so wont be able to add sauce before the last hour. Will that make a difference? Thanks for your help 🙂
Pamela says
just kidding. Just reread the review and saw she was originally short BBQ sauce for the recipe. Thanks again. Cant wait to try it tonight when I get home 🙂
Corey says
No worries Pamela 🙂 I hope you loved it!
steph says
Have you ever made this using frozen chicken breast?
Thanks
Corey says
Yes I have, just lengthen the cooking time about 1-2 hours (depending if you are cooking on low or high) 🙂
Greg says
Awesome. Just what I needed to know. Can’t wait to try it tonight. Thank you.
Chris says
I’m so excited to try this recipe! Long story short, we live by the park that has our city’s annual fireworks show so everyone comes over for a swim/bbq party before heading to the park for the festivities! I decided to break from tradition and make this! My question is can this recipe be doubled and still turn out flavorful and moist?
Corey says
Yes, that should work out just fine! Sounds like a fun time 🙂
Jacqueline says
Hi could you tell me how many pieces of breast chicken does it take to make 2lbs?
Bill Eastman says
When I went to the store, a 2 lb package had 3 chicken breast in it.
olivia says
I will be trying this recipe and follow all the direction. The picture looks amazing. So, my question would be, bone in pork chops…how much longer would I have to cook it? Or would this work out?
Robin says
This recipe is delicious and I want to experiment making a pulled pork roast using the same ingredients. I was wondering if you would suggest cutting the pork roast into smaller pieces, say about 2 inches in height and following the same directions as with the The Best Crockpot BBQ Chicken?
Also I found that you can use chiclen thighs to obtain the same results. YUMMY!!!
Penny says
Really need to double the recipe, should I use 2 crock pots or use one and cook longer. I on,y have one crock but guess could borrow but know need double this amount. And cooking it for tomorrow
Corey says
How big is your large crockpot? 6 qt?
Bill Eastman says
I have a 6 qt crockpot and was thinking about doubling too. A person at work and I bring samples to each other of dishes we have tried off the internet. I’m currently just making a single batch, but if it is as good as everyone says, I will make it weekly.
Bill Eastman says
I actually tripled it and will know in a few hours how it turns out. Sams has boneless skinless chicken breast for $1.68 per pound, which is more than a $1 difference per pound, but you have to buy a 6 pound package. Plan to bring it to work for lunch.
Kat says
Hi Bill,
I am planning to double the recipe as well and do 6 lbs,. I was curious, do I increase the cooking time? Or does it stay the same?
Sarah says
Made this tonight for my family. It was AMAZING! One of the best I’ve ever had. Sooo easy to make. Will be making this again very soon. 🙂
Corey says
Awesome Sarah! I am so glad your family love it!
heatherlynnsey says
One word, AMAZING!
Jamie says
Making this recipe for dinner tonight. Used some Sweet Baby Ray’s, yum. Can’t wait to see how it turns out. I had to sub steak sauce instead of worcestershire because the store didn’t have any though. It looks delish indded.
Kim says
Can you use regular salt? And can you put thye chicken in the crockpot frozen? Thats how I always put my chicken in the crockpot. That and I only buy frozen chicken. Maybe 5 hrs instead of 4?
Corey says
Yeah, I would just up it an hour 🙂
amy says
I don’t add any salt. I find the flavor to be just perfect without it, but you can always add salt if you feel the need while you’re shredding it. Trust me, it will make your house smell so good you won’t be able to resist tasting it while you shred it.
Kim says
Made as directed. Absolutely DELICIOUS!
Joyce says
Hello Corey, you are so right about this recipe,…Gave the recipe to my sweetie, he made it with frozen chicken tenders (lots), doubled the recipe, used Jack Daniels BBQ sauce “7” and cooked x 8 hours in crock pot. Shredded it, froze it in small containers and brought to the beach where we shared dinner. He bought Arnold hamberger buns which I buttered and toasted in a conventional oven. We had no extra BBQ sauce. I made the sandwiches for dinner placing some of the shredded chicken on the buns and I’m saying this was the best meal we had all week!! REALLY!!
I love it and we’re going to cook again and freeze some in individual containers so we can have quick meals quickly available. YUMMMMMie. Thanks for sharing.
Corey says
Great idea to freeze in individual container Joyce! I’ll also have to try out that BBQ sauce! YUM!
Roxanne says
What can you use in place of Worcestershire sauce? Thanks.
Corey says
A1 sauce would work…or soy sauce.
John says
Hi, I’m wondering if you can make this without the BBQ and seasonings. Would I need to add something so it cooks right, or? Thanks
Joyce says
Can you make this with frozen chicken breasts? What I mean is, can you put the chicken breasts in the slow cooker frozen or do you thaw first?
Corey says
You can make it with frozen, but you will just have to adjust the cooking time a bit.
Mary says
I used frozen chicken breasts, but thawed them first in the microwave for 20 minutes at 40 %. Then I just dumped the juices and all into the crockpot. You can just cook per the directions after that. It was soooo good. I pulled it apart. The grandkids loved it… even the picky youngest eight-yr-old! It will definitely be a regular for me. Oh! And I didn’t have Italian dressing on hand, so used Ranch dressing. It was still really awesome. This will be a regular for me!!
Anthony says
I’m cooking this as a surprise for my wife tonight. Really looking forward to it. 😀
Anthony says
My wife, son and I enjoyed this thoroughly this evening for our tea. It was absolutely gorgeous. I didn’t have any Worcester Sauce so I substituted that with a bit of Brown Sauce. It was very sweet. Next time I’ll omit the sugar or use a little less.
Cracking recipe though and well recommended. 😀
Gina Rae says
So easy; so good! I’ve made this twice now. Fabulous easy, peasy meal. Tonight we topped it over freshly prepared quinoa. This recipe would be good to double up on to serve as a potluck dish too!
sarah says
I am trying this tonight for dinner over rice! It looks so yummy and can’t wait for my husband to try it. Thank you for the recipe Corey will be posting soon with the results : )
Brian says
I saw this shared by a friend on Facebook last week. … and I happened to have some chicken, and was looking for something different to make for dinner. I must say, the pictures don’t do this recipe justice. The aroma is mouthwatering to say the least. It’s so good… that we had an open pit chicken bbq, with the chicken we had leftover, that I am making ANOTHER batch of this as I’m typing.
I found that 3 hours on high, completely untouched, then shredding, and another 20 minutes or so was perfect. Set it and forget it!
ed says
Could you use turkey?
Jodie says
I wouldn’t think turkey; I think it would change the taste too much.
joanna says
Hi I’m going to try this one but could someone name a typical Italian dressing thanks
Corey says
Joanna, I used Zesty Italian Dressing, generic store brand. I will make sure to go add that to the recipe.
joanna says
Thanks can’t wait to try it, it sounds yum
Tina says
How many breasts should i use and is wishbone italin dressing okay?
Corey says
Yes, Wishbone is great! Since breast vary in size, I would just stick to the recipe’s recommended pounds.
Annie says
I know it is years later…. BUT…. I have been making mine with Olive Garden Italian Dressing…. ( in a bottle )… I LOVE this recipe!!!!
Doris says
How many chicken breasts would make up approx 2 lbs??

I made this recipe quite awhile ago and it was very good! I also used Trader Joe’s BBQ sauce (because it doesn’t have high fructose corn syrup) and I did not include the brown sugar (I don’t like super sweet sauces, and BBQ sauce has about all the “sweet” I can handle). We had sandwiches one night and for a second dinner, I topped baked potatoes with the shredded BBQ. It definitely was tasty! Thanks for sharing the recipe!

I’m going to try this sometime this week, now my question is, I’ve made my own BB sauce which is a Vinegar base. Can I use that?
Corey says
I think that should be fine Noonie 🙂

I don’t have a crockpot, but I have been thinking about buying one because there are so many wonderful recipes I would like to try. Any suggestions about which one to buy? Please, help a newbie out. =)
Corey says
I usually post the crockpot I used at the bottom of any crockpot post 🙂 If you click on it, it will take you to the link where I got it. I would recommend a timer on whatever one you get, so you can set it and if you aren’t home by the time it is done, it will go to a warm setting.

Awesome! Thank you, Corey. (=

Hello,
So I’m going to make this recipe and was wondering if I needed to feed a house of 8 people, can I just double the ingredients and it still turn out right??
Karen says
I made this last night and doubled the recipe. It was delicious! In the future I would always double it and freeze half. Easy and delicious recipe.

Hi Karen…just got a crockpot for the holidays…going to attempt this but need to make it for about twice as many people as instructed…
now when you say you doubled it…you mean for a 4 lb’s of chicken breasts…you doubled on all the ingredients?
Sorry, i’m a beginner at this. : )
Corey says
Mike, I would double everything 🙂 Hope that helps.

Karen and Mike,
did you increase the cooking time as well? Thanks so much
Kim says
This is cooking in the crock pot as we speak and it smells delicious!!!! However I forgot to stir in the Worcester sauce in until after I poured the BBQ mixture on the chicken and began slow cooking it. So i added it over the chicken the shredded e chicken and mixed it up. Hope it turns out ok!!!

I made this the other night and it was delicious!! Next time I will double the recipe! Very easy and a big hit with the kids 🙂
Cindy says
Can this be made the night before and reheated in the crockpot the next night for dinner? Thanks for recipe!
Shannon says
You can most def make day before….imo it’s even better the next day after it’s sat overnight and soaked in all the juices!
Kim says
Cooked this tonight. I cooked on low for 5 and a half hours, shredded the chicken and put it over rice. Absolutely delicious!
Erin says
I have this going in the crockpot as we speak 😉 Do you have a good/easy coleslaw recipe? I do not have all the ingredients that I see in most coleslaw recipes – so I was wondering if you had a suggestion? Thanks!
Lori says
I just bought one of these slow cookers. How low (what temp) is good for low all day cooking. I’ve only had the “hi-lo” cookers before and had most everything overcook…I can’t wait to try this recipe!!
Kat says
I just made this recently. and I have the same type of slow cooker. I cooked four chicken breasts on low and they were done in about 5 to 6 hours. If you put them in frozen it’ll take about 8 to 9 hours.
