The Best Crockpot BBQ Chicken
This is going to be the easiest Crockpot BBQ chicken you have ever made. I’m not joking… this really is going to be the easiest BBQ chicken you have ever made. Since I first tested this recipe, it has made it’s way into our meal rotation almost weekly. It is just that good!
Now, don’t get me wrong…nothing beats BBQ chicken straight off the grill. BUT, the flavors of this recipe can’t be beat and you don’t have to sweat over a hot grill.
Give it a try next week and I bet you will be converted to the crockpot-side 🙂
I used a 6qt slow cooker for this recipe. You could certainly use a smaller cooker if preferred, though I would advise against using a larger one. It’s important to note that some slow cookers require a minimum fill level to prevent damage, so be sure to consult your owner’s manual beforehand.
Our go-to is Sweet Baby Rays. But any of your favorite bbq sauces will work!
Some of our favorites are mac and cheese, potato salad, pasta salad, or cowboy caviar.
The Best Crockpot BBQ Chicken
- Season chicken breast lightly (a small pinch per breast) with some sea salt and place in your crockpot.

- In a mixing bowl combine BBQ sauce, Italian dressing, brown sugar and Worcestershire sauce. Stir until well combined.

- Pour over chicken, cover and cook on HIGH for 3-4 hours.

- Once time is up, you can serve the breast whole, or shred with 2 forks. If shredding, recover and let cook in sauce for about 10-15 more minutes to soak up all that delish flavor.

Serve on buns, over rice, in wraps, on a salad or eat a plateful as is! Our favorite way is on fresh rolls, topped with coleslaw.

I’m just waiting for mine to cook – that’s always the problem with slow cooked meals, I’m always too impatient and want them ready now! Lol This one is so so easy, and looks delicious!
Made this a few months ago but I tripled the recipe because I have a very large family. So my ingredients were 6 pounds of skinless, boneless chicken breasts (thank you Sam’s Club), 3 cups of Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ Sauce, 3/4 Cup of Zesty Italian Dressing, 3/4 Cup of Brown Sugar (Packed), 3 Tbsp Worcestershire Sauce and some sea salt on each breast as it goes in to the crock pot. After 4 hours on HIGH, things were still soupy and the chicken was difficult to pull. I let it cook for another hour. The chicken pulled much easier but still a bit soupy. After the chicken was pulled, I cook for another 30 mins and everyone loved it. But it was very runny and messy. Since then, this recipe has become a regular rotation in our dinner schedule. But I tweek the recipe slightly every time. I have switched the BBQ sauce many times. Including Jack Daniels BBQ sauce which I thought was going to be REALLY good. It was, but not as good as the Sweet Baby Ray’s. I also dropped the amount of Zesty Italian Dressing to try to make it less runny/sloppy. This is my current recipe:
6-7 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts (from Sam’s Club) I also remove any fat from the chicken.
3 cups of Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ Sauce.
1/2 cup Kraft Zesty Italian Dressing
3/4 cup brown sugar (packed)
3 tbsp French’s Worcestershire Sauce
a dash of Mediterranean Sea Salt to each breast before it goes in to the crock pot.
I cook on High for 5 hours, pull the chicken and then cook for another 40 minutes on low. And then serve on hard rolls.
I want to thank Corey for sharing this recipe. I don’t know how we’ve lived without it. This is hands down, the BEST chicken I have ever tasted! And it’s so simple to make that even “I” can’t screw it up!!
I just found this recipe and would love to make it for a baby shower of 30 people. I am looking at making 10 pounds and using 2 crock pots. Do you have any further suggestions when making this large of an amount? Thanks!
Kristen, I suggest using my recipe above in each crockpot. That would give you about 12 pounds of chicken, but trust me.. You will eat the leftovers!
I made this for my boyfriend and I and the first thing he asked was whether it was really hard to make. When he found out how easy it was he was shocked; he thought it tasted incredible and said he would be content eating it for dinner every day. Also, I replaced the brown sugar with equal amounts of coconut sugar and it worked very well. I also laid it on top of some cauliflower mash I made and it tasted amazing. Yey, thank you!
I have made a ton of BBQ chicken in the crock pot. Often times, the BBQ tends to become icky, so I was hesitant to make this. I am so glad I did because it is delicious AND it worked! I make chicken in the crock pot a lot, and for 3-4 breasts, it only takes 1.5-2 hours on high. No need to keep it in for so long!
